Get a Jim Root Tele - it's not a blues guitar by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a blues hound and thats' my advise.

OK here come the flames now!

You cannot go wrong with Fender, they're very versatile guitars. I play a Fender Stratocaster HWY 1 SSS. I mostly play Metal/Thrash but I have been getting into blues-type stuff lately. What you should do is go to a guitar shop and play on all the guitars (not just Fender) in your price range. Play on equipment like you have at home (effects and amp) and see which one is the best. That would be the one I would buy.

Indicate your price range to get better idea of which models.
But any of the US and MiM Strats will do nicely.

get a standard strat. You cant go wrong with a strat. Unless your off playing the albert hall and need a particular sound. It doesnt sound like you are.
The standard strat design is the best selling type of guitar in the world for a reason. So buy a fender one.

Fender makes some of the best guitars in the world for all types of music IMHO, but you really should go to a music shop and try out different guitars until you find one that feels good and sounds good too. that is the best way to find out which guitar is best for you and the style(s) of music you'd like to use it for

Well, depending on your price range. I just bought a Squier strat that's pretty good for around $150. I am planning on modding this one though. I would suggest maybe a Jimmy Vaughan Strat. I have one and its great for blues. I bought that one for about $600. I also have an American Standard that I bought for around $800-$900 range. Again, Fender makes the best guitars in the world, so you really can't go wrong with any suggestion here. Just depends on your budget.

Welcome Happy16. You've joined a very knowledgeable and helpful group, and I certainly don't include myself in that group, but I've learned a lot in the last several months.

It sounds like a Strat would fit your needs perfectly. Go play as many gits as you can get your hands on and then pick THE one that speaks to you. I did that after playing an LP exclusively and found that the Strat is best FOR ME. It's got to be one of the most (if not THE most) versatile guitars ever made.

If you like Blues then I say try some Strats. You can get a very nice one for relatively cheap. I understand from reading some posts on this forum that some of the Squires can be real diamonds in the rough, and I had a MIM arctic white Strat that was one fine guitar. I say "was" because I sold it to help finance my MIA Am Std Strat. I'm quite happy to have the Am Std but I wish I could've come up with some extra cash in a way other than selling the MIM 'cause that guitar was fantastic. Next time I suffer from GAS I'm selling some plasma.

A Strat or a Tele (the rest of the models don't hold a candle to these 2 masterpieces)

American made if you have the cash
Made in Mexico if price is a consideration
Squier if you can't swing the cash for the MIM guitar

I'm a Strat man myself. They are wonderfully versatile guitars that lots of blues players use. I play all kinds of music on it and use it for most of my blues stuff.

I also have a Tele that sounds great and gets used for blues too, just not as much.

Play both in the store and see which one you like best. If possible, try them out through the same kind of amp that you own.

Welcome,

As other guys mentioned you would need to specify your budget. In general of course the Strat would do anything. These are the exceptional guitars and I describe them as "jack of all sounds/tones, master of 90% of sounds/tones" that you really need/want. There is a lot about the sound in your hands.

Until recently I did not pay attention to Squier models as a serious option unless you want to mess with it mechanically. Now I found an purchased Squier Classic 50s vibe one and I can tell you so far it is an awesome guitar for the 1/4 or 1/3 of price of US models. I know people that purchased all three models from this Classic Vibe series that was released this summer.

Hope this helps

Uh another thing just for comparison. I jammed with the one of the bands last night and one guy had Squier 60's vibe Strat going straight into Fender Hot rod Deluxe 40w. He played lead lines on Stormy Monday and he was on the middle pickup. If you were only listening and not watching you would think it is a BB King's Gibson ES 355.

Hi Happy...Welcome to the party!

I read some of the other replies you got, and the one common thread is to play as many guitars as you can, and the right one will find you. This is good advice. I'm still pretty much a beginner myself, and literally everyone I talk to says you have to find what's right for you, and there's no formula that will do this. It's all experimentation. For your first few forrays into the stores, take an experienced player with you. His or her taste in sound may be different, but they can ask the right questions and give you some good general pointers.

That said, some ideas for the blues. If you're on a budget, you might consider a Highway 1 or a Deluxe Player, possibly configured HSS, if you want a little more growl in your lead work. These are both solid performers that won't make you take out a third mortgage. The Player is especially versatile, and you can't get much more tonal variety without going to S1 switching (Standard Deluxe) at twice the price.

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, a Tex-Mex lends itself to blues playing. There are also several models that have the Texas Special pups.

Point is, you have more choices than you can shake a truss rod at. The other posters in here said it with way fewer words than me...grab and play. You'll find the right one...maybe in an unexpected place. That right one will whisper...

"...Take me home..."

Good Luck!
