I got my guitar when I was 11, but I didn't really get into it until I was 13.

For all of the long, sort of interesting stories I have for just about everything else, why I got started can pretty much be summed up in one sentence. I was bored, and it was there.

Nothing special for me either. Just before my 21st birthday I was in a music store with a friend while he was looking for a new guitar.

I picked up a used Fender Redondo - only because the headstock looked familiar. Next thing I knew I was walking out of the shop with it (after paying of course - happy birthday). I only played for a few years before putting it away. Last year I found it again and I've been playing it since. It's not as fast as my strat or as full sounding as my 12 string, but I won't be getting rid of it.

I used to love listening to my dad's old record collection. We'd listen to Joplin, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and the likes. Well I grew particularly fond of Hendrix and around 1980 or so I told my dad I'd learn to play Purple Haze if I had a guitar. Of course I had no idea how complex the guitar really was especially in the style of Jimi The Great! Well to my surprise my dad dug out an acoustic he'd won in a card game in Vietnam! The guitar sucked but I did learn the intro so dad bought me a Harmony flying v from JC Penny's and a used Peavey Backstage Plus from somewhere and the passion never faded.

My parents listened to rock music so at age 8 got my first acoustic, back then electric guitars were like a dream, at age 14 my cousin sold me his Yamaha super roller, a strat copy, then in 89 got a black Les Paul Studio, which made me practice and learn a lot, then in 94 got a used 79 MIA yellow strat for a ridiculous chap price 250$, in 2008 got a used Jackson, and recently built my first custom Strat. I´ve been playing on and off all my life, at the moment I´m lucky enough to have the original members of my 13 year old band in town and weve been playing and doing some gigs.
I think it´s great to have your band and rock out, I have overcome all the ego $@!& that comes with being creative and musician/guitarist, I have seen great bands dissapear because of ego problems and ridiculous reasons, so now I have a totally different vision on music, being humble, rocking out, have fun, shred the fretboard, induce and motivate fellow musicians, composing good music for them to enjoy and therfeore letting me express better.

I started off playing guitar almost 2 years ago now when a friend of mine convinced me to play Guitar Hero of all things because he knew that I always wanted to play the guitar but just never picked one up. I was given an acoustic guitar when I was about 7 or 8 but I didn't have lessons so I would try and strum it figure it out but I really had no resources to learn. Finally after much pestering my best friend got me to play Guitar Hero at his house which he used to get our wives involved and had a blast playing that stupid thing. Then he brought up my always wanting to play a real guitar and the next day we went guitar shopping. I bought a Squier Tele and the rest is history. I'm glad he did it and I wish that I would have found a reason to play sooner. Of course telling people that Guitar Hero was the catalyst for me starting to play is a tad embarrassing but hey now I'm here
