Hey All,

I just picked up a MIM strat and was looking to see what I could find out about this guitar. It Has a s/n MZ3055592 and has "deluxe series" on the headstock and a 5 way switch. I found the dating code which makes it an 03 but could not find any other information about pickups and such. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It took a little bit of detective work but after going through the specs and checking for unique features , under the changed out pickgaurd I found a hum canceling pickup making it a powerhouse model with the powerhouse pickup system. I got the guitar, hardshell case, extra strings, 10ft. cord and all the original pickgaurd and knobs, everything in mint condition for $300 so I guess I got a good deal on this one. Gotta love Craigslist!

Sounds like you got a good deal.

Very cool. Price sounds about right. They're around $380 or so brand new, so that's not bad.

Have fun with it though. They're great guitars.

Regarding MIM Strats...I've owned a lot of Strats in my day, MIM, $@!, American etc...People who diss on MIM Strats are a bit mis-informed on the quality-sound of MIM Strats. Right now I own a 59 thin-skin, John Mayer Limited and a 50th Anniversay MIM Tex-Mex and it's one of my best sounding Strats I've ever owned. I've spent endless hours trying to diss on that 13 year old guitar myself and it still holds up to the more expensive Strats. Maybe I got lucky...But then again, I've seen a lot of crappy Strats as well from Mexico, USA and Japan.

I will say though, even if you buy a MIM or an American Strat, they are both made by Mexicans either way!

It is interesting to note that "maybe I got lucky when I got mine" is such a recurring theme when it comes to the MIM Strats.

Yeah, it's true though. MIM's "can" be great, I have one that is, since 94, and it's a great guitar. I could play any profession gig, recording session or tour with it - no doubt.

But a MIA's better. Period. MIM owners get fierce about hearing that, but it's true. Not a lot of players can tell or appreciate that difference enough, and for them, a MIM is better.

That doesn't mean "your MIM sucks and mine is better than yours - HAHAHA!". But it is, what it is - a version of the MIA that had a few corners cut to make a cheaper priced instrument for those that want a MIA strat but can't afford it.

Yes, MIA is better quality and pickups than the MIM, but that doesn't mean that you won't like it. :D

Absolutely right. MIM's are great. After all, they ARE called the Standard, not sub-standard. You could easily live a full life as a professional musician with only one MIM strat. You just have to find one that suits you, and you have a friend for life.
