I would like for you all to rate the 50s Classic Player Stratocaster. I am primarily an acoustic player, a few years back I played a 60s strat (MIM). I really enjoyed that guitar, but I am more of a country player and I enjoy the brightness of a maple neck. I sold that guitar a few years ago, and I am once again wanting to play a strat. How many of you own a 50s Classic Player Stratocaster? Do you like them - would you recommend them or another model that Fender produces. Thanks a lot for your help!

As I mentioned elsewhere, I was talking to the owner of a well-respected music store the other day and he told me he sells substantially more Classic Player guitars than anything else from the Fender line, including MIM and MIA Standards.

It surprised me a lot, but it says something for the model. Go to it, I say!

Cheers - C

I have one and it's become my main guitar. It has the perfect neck in my opinion (soft v). It looks vintagy but has locking tuners and the two point tremolo. It comes with very good pickups (american).
The only odd thing about it (which can be a plus) is that the switch is configured for the neck+bridge in the typical neck+middle position. If you like a tele twang then this is right up your alley.
For mine I rewired it to get back the neck+middle and use a push-pull pot to get the neck+bridge.

It's a great guitar. I love the neck so much I was thinking of buying some Classic 50s Player necks off eBay.

Is that right? I didn't know that - very handy piece of information.

Miami Mike has done the mod where the middle position becomes bridge+neck, which makes good sense to me for players who only use the middle pickup to get the in between sounds at positions 2 and 4.

Can't recall these kinds of wirings on stock Strats before, though.

Cheers - C

Yes, this absolutely is ture. They have a 5-way superswitch in it to accomplish this. It confused the hell out of me at first because I wasn't getting hum canceling in that position.

The only mention of it in the specs is "five-way switch and custom pickup switching"

I now have the best of both in my opinion, since the push-pull pot can turn the neck pickup on in any position I can have neck+bridge and even all pickups on (which is real nice and quacky)

I bought one about a month ago and I just love it! The craftsmanship, the feel and the sound is awesome. I don't know if you knew but this guitar is custom shop designed. The neck plate has that stamped on it. The pickups in it are American 57/62's. Only thing is they come in two colors, shoreline gold and 2 color sunburst. Mine is the sunburst. You ought to play one to see if you like it. Eddie Bowers is right about the pickup selector and it does have that tele twang. I also thought about rewiring mine to the standard setup. Here is a picture of mine

Thanks Benitto. Like I said I have been really happy with my purchase. I guess I can also mention that it has medium jumbo frets on it, 9.5 radius neck, and a soft v.
