I had a Squire HM III. I was happy with it, you should like the Fender HM. I played on the Fender HM in the store back in the day and I would've gotten it, except I had money issues. I did change the tremelo on the Squire, it had a Floyd Rose Licensed tremelo that did not have much sustain. I put a Floyd Rose Pro (with some modification to the guitar body) a few years later and never had sustain issues again.

Does yours still Rock?

I have one from 1985, it's all original with the exception of static decals I applied to the body a few years back.
While I'm not too thrilled with the 25" scale length, overall it's a pretty dependable guitar. It stays in tune very well and is always a good choice when going to a jam session when you have no idea what styles you might have to play. It's very versatile that way.
The pups are two American standard single coils with a DiMarzio Humbucker,(not sure which model).
The Bridge is a Kahler Spyder Floyd Rose styled tremolo, somewhat lacking in mass at the inertia block which seems to affect the natural sustain of the guitar.
I compensated for this by adding a 1/8" thick brass plate to the back of the headstock, cut to fit the shape of the headstock and held in place with the tuning machines.
If I had to rate this guitar on a scale of 1 - 10....I would put it at about 7.5.

I own a 1990 HM Strat in hot pink, and love it. Awesome hard rock/metal axe. Blows away my Charvel/Jackson and Ibanez guitars for fast action and 24 fret access.
