Hi, I recently got a used stratocaster, it looks a bit old, its supposed to be a deluxe stratocaster made in USA, here are some pics and hope someone can tell me if its a real stratocaster and maybe what age it could be please, the fender logo is engraved in the headstock, also the "stratocaster" is engraved

Doesn't look legit to me. The logo is really dodgy. ...Is there a sevial number anywhere on the guitar? (back of headstock, neckplate, etc..)

the tuners look very cheap for a deluxe model though it could be the picture.

That's right. I had those tuners on an '80's Squier.

Also, the bottom curve on the headstock looks all wrong. And last time we went searching for trussrod nut openings like that, without the walnut surround, we could only find them on old Squiers and a current Affinity Strat. The missing skunk stripe supports that, too (though of course there were legit Fenders in the '60s with no skunk stripe).

I'd have assumed it was a budget Squier from the Far East that has been "up branded", except for that headstock shape and the pressed, perhaps burnt in logo. That all makes it look totally bogus to me.

Sorry. But if it plays all right, then no matter...?

Cheers - C

Hi Bro,
At best it's a "bitsa" Strat with a Fender licensed neck that someone applied a headstock decal to. The decal is in the wrong place. Fender didn't stamp anything into the back of the headstocks of their guitars, so the "deluxe model" on the back was added by someone. No "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck either.

Pull the pickguard and see what the pots and pickups are like. If it's good quality stuff maybe you didn't get too bad a deal. What did you pay for it?

I agree with Ceri and mthornOO that this looks very suspect. Logo and Shape just not right. Looks like a bogus Strat thats been branded for sale.

hi! yes it looks weird and the whole guitar looks very very old and rusty, its heavier than my MIM standard strat, and the resonance is very good, it plays pretty nice its only very weird and maybe not legit, does fender ever engraved the logo like "burnt" ?

I got the guitar as a trade for an old speaker cabinet I never used

any more info would be appreciated thanks for all the replies

It is hard for me to tell. The head stock looks vintage but, I don't think it is. I have two 1973 strats both 100% stock. Those both have 3 bolt necks along with my 72 thinline tele and 72 jazz bass reissue. My newer Strats have 4 bolt necks and so does my P-Bass. If you can give me the serial #
I can find out for you.

that's the thing, I dont find a serial number anywhere on the guitar
perhaps I could unscrew the neck and see if it has something that says fender in the neck joint? the guitar looks like someone has done many updates to it, like the tuners are different, the neck metal plate doesnt say fender or anything

You might want to check the serial # on the headstock under the support column. You could also take the neck off and see the model # on it. 8)

I don't think so. I think at one time in the 50's they took a chissle and carved the Fender logo. Not sure though.... :( :) Anyways, good luck finding your model! :D

 By the way, welcome to the forum! :D :P :o

sorry for all the questions but, I have noticed its a bit on the heavy side, so if it were a squier that someone put the fender usa logo on, I think it would have to be lighter right? it weights more than my MIM strat, I'd like to find out what's the deal on that guitar hehe
