Hello everyone, I recently picked up a Standard Fat Strat and noticed that the side dots on the 9th and 12 frets seem to be cut lower than the rest. I don't know of this is common and it doesn't affect the playability of the instrument at all. It's only the first dot on the 12th fret too so the two are crooked (which is how I noticed it) I really don't wanna return it for this but it is kind of annoying. I guess if I can learn to live with it it'll make my guitar unique.

It must have been somebody's first day on the job.

If you can live with it keep it. It may also one day make it worth something. It makes it different from the rest.

Are you saying that the dots are not flush with neck?

MIM, eh? Sounds like the product of a tequila hangover at the factory perhaps :) I know that feeling well!

Keep it. Makes it unique. I mean, how bad is it - really?

If you can live with it hold on to it. Could be a "collectible error" one day.
If it keeps bugging you just buy a new neck. That way you can keep the "error" and see if it becomes a closet classic

I have to say that would iritate the fire out of me as well.

As far as collectiblity I'm gonna stray from previous posted thoughts. When I think of collectible errors I think of baseball cards and money. Some of those are collectible because of printing errors (ie early 90's Donruss) or photo errors (ie McGuire's Topps rookie or some guy adjusting himself in the background). Or coins that have Lincolns face stamped on a nickel or severely offset dollar bills.

Dots on a fret board I would compare to buying a new car and one headlight is lower than the other. I'm taking it back.

On the other hand.... every guitar is unique. if it plays well and sounds great then I would keep it.

Ever date a hot chick that had like one thing wrong with her?
It's like that.

I went to Guitar Center and the majority of the Standard Strat's they have are the same way. It's not the same dots but it seems like at least a couple aren't aligned properly I'm keeping it though because it plays better than all the other ones I tried.

If you like the way it plays/sounds, keep it. If your eyes are drawn to the defect every time you pick it up, take it back as you will ALWAYS notice it.
