Schaller locking tuner cuts/snaps my high E after a couple weeks after stringing guitar. How do I get around this?

For me, a couple of weeks is as long as I leave strings on so that wouldn't be a problem.

I'm wondering how your using the tuners. Are you just sticking the string thru, pulling it tight and locking it down? If so, you're putting all the stress on the bend. Try leaving some slack when you string up and make sure there's a turn or two on the post. That way the stress is spread out. This also makes it so you don't have to tighten up the lock tight enough to cut the string.

If you're already doing this, get a magnifying glass and check the tuner post hole for burrs or nicks that might be cutting your string.

+1. The full answer.

Didn't we have this exact same enquiry a week or two ago? Was that you, Cool9, or someone else with the same issue?

Strange. Those tuners are the best going, far as I'm aware.

Cheers - C

Yeah man I agree...not to be a jerk, but most people don't have any knowledge what-so-ever about the strength of mechanical clamping. If they were to try to install an overhead crane cable system, they'd over-do everything until complete failure before the load test was even done  ! If you know how to pickle or can meats and veggies, then you know that after you add the boiling brine that you only tighten the lid with 2 or 3 fingers with a "slip" fit. So look at the locking nut as a 2 finger affair with very little pressure...That'll be more than enough to keep eveything in line so to speak...

But then, don't you loose the advantage of using those locks with the whammy bar? My strat stay tunned even with hard whammy style.

I'm wondering because I exactly do what you describe as example, though I have no problems like Cryingstrat explains.

Thanks
Ben.
