C neck is thicker than V neck. if you used gibson I don't think you will have any discomfort playing a C neck. But try it yourself and have a feel.
I've just bought an american deluxe strat with "modern C neck" and really like it. I played an ibanez RG prestige before, and switching to fender didn't take a long time to get used to.

as for eric johnson signature, sorry I couldn't help you.

Good luck hunting for a new fender.

Get a tele club neck, their fat. I always thought C shapes were the thinnest, with U being the fattest and that V's were somewhere in the middle.

There is a thread farther down this forum titled "cool page on necks" that shows the different neck shapes" that gives an idea of relative sizes...

This is truly one of those personal opinion questions but coming from a ex-Gibson purist the U shape was similar to the 50’s Gibson necks the c yet smaller is kinda hard to compare to Gibson but yeah they would be closer to the Gibson 60’s necks and the V was like nothing I ever played but I did like it. Anyway I personally like the c shape but this is a question you could ask on any guitars website that has different neck shapes. It depends on the player…. We all have our own personal opinions. Good luck

The consensus here is the same. You really have to play them. I've held forth elsewhere on the subtle differences in some of these Fender V-necks.

To quote an old '60's proverb: "If it feels good, do it!!" :P

I, too, played an LP exclusively until recently when I purchased my MIM and more recently when I purchased my Am Std.

I can tell you that both of my Strats are Modern C shape 9.5 inches, and they both feel WAY different than my LP. I think the V shape will feel even more different.

I have a 57 reissue with a hard V and an American Standard, and I love my hard V on the 57. Don't get me wrong, I love the American Standard as well, but I have large hands, and the V works for me.

I say set up shop at a Guitar Center and play them all til you find the right one that calls to you, maybe go back the next day and try again before you lay down the plastic.

[quote="Blue Jay Way"]I have a 57 reissue with a hard V and an American Standard, and I love my hard V on the 57. Don't get me wrong, I love the American Standard as well, but I have large hands, and the V works for me.

Then there's the '57Hotrod which has a modification of the soft V and I think you will find that one quite playable.

Yeah, they're all very different. My 98 MIA with a modern c feels perfect to me. My friend's 80-something MIJ had a huge, flat neck that I can't stand. I can barely play on the thing, but he prefers it that way. I would guess it's a large radius U shaped neck.

I was never a fan of the V necks until I played a new MIA Deluxe Ash with a Vneck on it that I almost bought right on the spot. Very different feel than my others but I liked it a lot and it was very playable.

I'd say to try all of the types in a store. That is really a personal thing, and how the neck feels in your hand.

I personally love the C neck, because it feels good in my hand, it's very easy to play, and the strings seems to set so low.

I have an Ovation with a V neck. I can play it, but I don't like the feel of that style neck in my hand. Especially when playing bar chords.

I have a Tele with a U neck. That's probably somewhere between the above two. It's feels a lot thicker, and is harder for me to play than the C neck.

Now.....I'm sure all kinds of people out there will have other choices and prefer different necks for all kinds of reasons. That's why I said it's a very personal thing, and I don't think anyone can really answer that for you. You'll just have to actually play on them and see which one feels best to you.

I have the 70's reissue Strat and that has the U neck. They say that the U neck is one of the fattest around, but the D neck is the fattest radius around the neck.
