My sons is really getting into the guitar. What is the best fender for him given he eight and has small hands and arms. I don't mind paying for a fender given he is very good about taking care of guitars.

He currently has the Squir Mini Strat and it's 3/4 size. This is the perfect size for him, however the quality of the guitar leaves a bit to be desired- sounds bad, never stays in tune and it's falling apart. I guess you get what you pay for....

Help!

Welcome to the Forum!

It's very cool that your son is taking an interest in guitar at such a young age.
My advice is to take him to several different music stores and check out what they have in a price range that is reasonable to you. Find one that he likes and fits him well with room for him grow.

Good Luck! Post a picture of the youngster with his new guitar when he gets it!

I'd say something super cool, yet short scale - thus easier for little hands!
Like the Squier Duosonic.

It's not as expensive as a Fender but is at the top end of the Squier range.

I want one so much!!!!!

i would get a squire their light thin shorter and easier to play
there cool and the frets are closer together for easy finger moving

they stay in toon and are very high quality.

I agree with Ian and that Squire is on the upper end of the line as far a quality. You may even consider Standard Stratocaster so he can grow into it. If he can play on it being a little big for him, he'll be awesome by the time he's 16-17 years old. But if he's real young 7-9 yrs old, that might be a little too big for him. If he's 10-14 yrs old I would not hesitate and get him a full size guitar. I bought my son a 3/4 scale guitar that he out grew in 3 years, and it was a piece of crap.

I changed the tuners to Ping tuners and that corrected some tuning issues on my son's. A possible fix to get him to get him though a couple years so you can get him that full size guitar. As far as tone, well that gets expensive. Better off to buy a new guitar.

I thought Fender had a 3/4 guitar in their line. I would ask the next time I was in the guitar store if there was.

If you want a Fender for him, get him a Tele. He will learn to love them.... Otherwise, any Squire(by Fender) model would be good for those small hands. :D

Hey Pakguy

Very cool that your son is interested in playing. I just bought my 12 yr old a "STARCASTER" From Target and it really isn't a bad guitar. The Pick-ups are not the best but that can be a mod later on down the road.

If you can afford it, go with a Mexican Strat. They are of good quality and it gives him a real instrument that he can grow into.

Have fun-

The Freeze
