I have one... I hate it. I am converting mine to a hard tail. But here is why- (this may not apply to your playing style) I play mostly blues, blues rock.

1. I very seldom use the whammy... and never for big dives and whalin' on it.
2. It's a complicated system, mine was always finicky and needed adjusting. String changes are a bit more complicated but not too difficult. I am a firm believer in K.I.S.S. More mechanical parts usually means more time fixing than playing.
3. If I bend a string, here comes the bridge and out of tune I go. (and if you break a string.. the show stops till you get another one on there)
4. Resting my palm on the bridge was never an option.
5. Most of the FR strats I have played did not have the tone or sustain.

Again, hope I didn't rain on your parade but those are my observations. If you need a whammy you can really whale on then try em out.

the staying in tune can be fixed. I have a MIM that I just put more springs on and Sperzel locking tuners as well. I am going to try the graph-tech saddles out next weekend. It not only stays in tune but it helped the sustain immensely. What kind of guitar are you playing on now?

I owned a Squire HM III back in the day. It had a Licensed Floyd Rose. I have also looked at the New Fender HSS with the Floyd Rose. Some differences I noticed (besides Fender/Squire issue) was the Squire was cut to fit the Floyd Rose where the Fender is not. I could go all the way forward and back with it without any issues. I played the Fender HSS in the store and noticed I could not go back as far as I could with my old Squire. As far as tuning issues...I never had a problem with Floyd Rose's when it came tuning. Sustain was a little iffy, but I finally put a Floyd Rose Pro series on my Squire and I DID NOT have any sustain issues after that. I would buy the Fender HSS with the Floyd only because I am comfortable with them. I say play one and see if it is what you want/need. I will probably catch some flack on this forum, but here it goes. Gibson just released a Les Paul with a Floyd. It is definelty a "Rockers" guitar. However, I like Fender Stratocasters better because they are a more deversified guitar to play different music on.

Ceri,

Thanks. I didn't want to give the wrong impression to others out here in the forum. I really love the Fender guitar line, especially the Stratocaster. I just wanted to throw out some options to allstar619.
