Thanks Ceri...I think? :?

Hi, Shreddin

Very different than what I'm into, to be sure. I kind of listen to (and watch) your type of thing with a stupified air of; "how the heck do they do that?" wonderment about me.

I've studied it a bit, though more with a view to note choice than speed. I'm a Knopfler-esque fingers and thumb player - I ain't ever going to be up to pulling off that high octane stuff!

Keep going: we're watching in astonishment!

Cheers - C

i had a washburn rg231 (i think it was) 36 fretter. The thing was awfull. Have you ever tried to intone a 24 fret guitar with a floyd. The washburn was near impossible, i couldnt do it anyway. Get it right at 36 and 12 was way off. Get it right at 24 and 12 was okayish 36 was still terrible though.

What on earth do you guys get up to on those extra 3 frets???!!!
A few problems: the lower cutaway would give poor access to the top frets. And you'd have to move the neck pickup. That pup's position is calculated to occupy the exact position of the non-existant 24th fret, i.e. half the strings' length, because nice harmonic overtones are found in that spot. Shifting the pickups down makes them sound different and loses much of the distinctive Strat neck tone.

Hi Ceri!!

Good that you discuss the technical aspects of this move. Wanting to swap out the pups on my old 24 fret PRS I was educated to the fact that the Vintage Bass neck pickup on that guitar was specifically designed for the harmonics at that position. I left well enough alone.

On a lighter note....that photo....awesome!! Really begs to be in an ad. 8)

Doc

Ceri made a very good point about a 24 fret Strat. I have noticed that my HM Strat(w/ 24 frets) sounds different in the neck pickup position than any other 21/22 fret Strat I own. It tends to lose some of that beautiful SRV tone and depth. Kinda like the middle pup sounds. It is only moved towards the bridge a little bit, but in the world of harmonics and string vibration, a little bit means different tone. The HM Strat is an awesome axe, and I am a big advocate of some of it's unique features.
