Welcome to the forum!

Fender HM (heavy metal) Strats have 24 medium jumbo frets (in an HSS congfiguration). First, made in Japan, then later in the U.S., in the late 1980s to early 1990s.

That HM strat is pretty cool, but i think it would be awesome if they came out with a regular strat with 24 frets and a floyd rose.

I mean as a regular production model, so others may purchase one!

I'm not thinking of myself

It would be nice to have a Fender with 24 frets, with a Floyd Rose, with a HH design...Oh they already make one. No seriousely, I would like the option of a 24 fret on a HWY 1, MIM, or another Fender Stratocaster in my price range. :)

They made one, but not any more. I've seen them on e-bay here and there. I've been wanting one with a floyd and a H/S set-up just like my one-off Custom Shop Jackson Dinky. That cost me $3,200.00 back in 1991 so I'm sure that if it were production that it shouldn't cost any more than $1,100.00 even if it were MIA...

Visit Mr Shreddin's webpage: he'd love to show you...

It's not too difficult to make a regular modern Fender neck but with that 22nd fret overhang extended up to 24.

A few problems: the lower cutaway would give poor access to the top frets. And you'd have to move the neck pickup. That pup's position is calculated to occupy the exact position of the non-existant 24th fret, i.e. half the strings' length, because nice harmonic overtones are found in that spot. Shifting the pickups down makes them sound different and loses much of the distinctive Strat neck tone.

Not that it would bother our more technical playing brothers, who tend to spend most of their time at the bridge pickup...

Cheers - C

Thanks Ceri...I think? :?

Anyone that doesn't get the whole idea of a full 2-octave fretboard would REALLY have a tough time comprehending my Caparison which has 27; YES 27 FRETS!!! It's all in what you're accustomed to playing actually, kind of like how I play an upright piano everyday (obviouslly with a full keyboard) and would then go to play an electric keyboard with a scaled down keyboard length (like missing a whole octave for example). It kind of throws you for a loop if you're not ready for it with certain songs that you may have written on one and then played it on the other one and found out that you just ran out of room. Now THAT really blows man.

Anyway does anyone remember the 36 fret Washburn that was made in either the late 80's or early 90's? Now that was some crazy s*!t!

and don't forget that Uli Jon Roth's custom "Sky" guitars have 32 frets.
