Yeah, I was meaning to get round to this sometime. Can't help noticing that you have a '54, a '64, a '74... Is a pattern emerging? Is there something significant to you about the fourth year of the decade - and if so, do you have the remaining Strats in your series too? I don't remember seeing them...

Cheers - Sherlock

I'm not very inventive either. I say give me the blue one, cherryburst, or soon the black one. Oh , and every once in a while I'll ask for the acoustic! Lazy huh?

Well, Sherlock, I do not have the complete pattern. :( I don't have any Strats from the '80s or '90s. I do have a couple from 2005 just for good measure.

It's just a coincidence about those few FOURS ... though it does make a good study of changes in Stratocaster design in the first two decades of them.

My daughter gave me 2 suggestions for my guitars today.

My ESP LTD is named Emy b/c it's emerald green and my Fender HWY1 is named Dawn because it has a Sunburst paint job.

I'll see how well the names stick.

I have several and have only officially named one... My Salmon Pink 1992 Ibanez Jem is named "Lori-Ann". The rest of my guitars I just call by the model or the color etc.

Should I stop naming my guitars?

Should I maybe get a life?

Or a date?

I like pudding.

It's crazy but you are not the one

Well, since i didn't be wanna left out of the name game, i decided to name my Squier Stratocaster Amber because she has a sunburst finish. My other black acoustic is named Mac (metal strings, it's black). My brother's acoustic, which i have with me for now, he named schmageggi. I don't know how to spell that :? :)

I don't really refer to them by their name, since i don't have too many. When that day will come, they then will be called by their names.

I never did. I think the biggest reason is, I've always loved and played Stratocasters for the vast majority of my playing 'career' and have always considered the Stratocaster a unique guitar unto itself. Naturally, I still do. Hence, the model name alone, "Stratocaster" sums it all up for me. FWIW, I don't even like calling them, "Strats" as it somehow degrades their "aura". Yea, I'm probably an eccentric in this area but that's the way I feel about it.

I call mine the eclipse strat since it has black pickguard over a sunburst body. I plan on changing the pickup covers and knobs to black so that I can complete its look.

-The highly modded 1962RI USA Stratocaster is finished in a beautiful fiesta red, therefore she got the name "Fiesta Red"
-The 1980 G&L F100 has a gorgeous tobacco sunburst finish, hence the moniker "Brownie"
-The highly modded see-through blonde Telecaster is not the logical choice of Blondie; rather, due to her awesome Texas tone, she became "Big Tex"
-My first guitar was a Fender F250 acoustic--so she became "First Baby"
-A gorgeous 1979 Ibanez acoustic--painted glossy black--was given to me by the widow of a friend. His name was Mark, so the axe became the "Black Mark"
-I bought a 1956 Airline archtop acoustic for $1.00 at a garage sale. It had a penny rattling around inside it, so I guess I got a rebate (LOL). She became "The 99-cent special"

...and yes, they are all females.

Yes, I name my electric guitars - I translate the name into Japanese - I like they way their names sound.

Taka (Hawk) - a 2005 Squier '51 Black
Yume (Dream) - a 2006 Squier Cherryburst Strat
Houbi (Prize) - a 2008 Fender VG Strat Blizzard Pearl won here

I've also named my Miata - she's named Washu after an Anime character.

I wouldn't say that my guitars have names as much as they have nicknames. My '01 Texas Special is my "Number One," my black MIM with the flame job is "En Fuego" and my '83 Standard is "Senior" because it's 25 years old and I was a senior in High School when I got it.

I have some non-Fender guitars also. I have a Schecter C-1 Elite, Amber finish flame maple top with gold hardware the guys in the band named "Bling" and I have an Ibanex RG, flame maple top with dark gray finish named "Smoke."

my first real guitar (one which i actually paid for and cost more than $100 bucks) is a jagstang named Lexy, my '71 tele thinline is named Coretta (after Martin luther king's wife. i wanted a name with soul and who else has more soul than the wife of a anti-segregated preacher?), and my lonestar strat is named for the moment Domino. i don't really know why. i had a jaguar named Serinity but her replacement is the strat.

I friend of my had a cat which was named "After You". It answered a host of questions....

With respect to guitars, my suggestion is that you all name your guitars
"THE LAST ONE". That will settle another set of issues. I trust you will all understand, without further explanation. :P

Doc

It comes with a name already.

My Stratocaster is named Hot Rodded American Fat Strat Texas Special. If we need to get more specific I can pull the serial number.
