I'm going to be buying some new pickups here soon for my 2006 Highway One strat. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound it gets now but I want to upgrade it. I'm looking for something that can get sounds from Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers for those who don't know) to Hendrix. So far I'm looking at the Fender CS 69's, Fender CS 54's, and Fender Fat 50's. Feel free to suggest any other pickups as well. 8)

My preference are the CS69s and CS54s.

GFS pickups are about as good as you can get, and they are not expensive. I have their vintage single coils, Crunchy PAT humbuckers, and P-90s in three of my guitars. They are all sweet. Check them out at guitarfetish.com

 You don't always have to like Fender products. I like the EMG pickups for my off season metal playing, but for a blues sound I use Fender Single coil vintage pickups, and I think you should try them out.... 8) By the way, welcome to the forum. :D

GFS are quite a distance away from being "as good as you can get". They aren't expensive...that you are correct on. They are excellent quality FOR THE MONEY but hardly compete with Seymour Duncan, Lindy Fralin, WCR, DiMarzio, etc. and even many stock pickups from the big brands like Fender, Gibson, etc.

I would think that GFS isn't an upgrade relative to what came in the Highway One. Different? Yes. Upgrade? Hmmm...not to me.

Check out Seymour Duncan pickups. The SSL series are GREAT pickups if you want to retain the Strat sound only BETTER. Go to the site and listen to the audio samples.

...as are the Seymour Duncan APS-1. Incredible single coils with Alnico II magnets. Maybe my fav single coil.

Goto Dimarzio.com. Listen to some of their pick ups. I like the DS 100 for that Maiden sound. Seymore Duncans are nice. Love the EMG's. Unfortunately you don't know what new pick ups are going to sound in your guitar until they are in. I have the 2007 HWY 1 SSS config. Through my amp and effects, I can sound like Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Megadeth to name some sounds (I'm old). I came close to buying the HWY 1 HSS with that Fender Atomic Humbucker, but SSS won out. It sounded better while I was playing at the store and they only had those two HWY 1 Strat models in the store. I was also thinking about changing my p/ups, but I think I am going to hold out for now.

Agreed! My strat came with Woodstocks in all positions, they are very nice (and noiseless) pickups!

I have 57/62 Originals in my 08 HW1. They sound briliant!
