Hello,

Was reading a bio-book about Fender, and it says that they made a clear acrylic (??) strat in the 50's (??) for public display so people could watch the tremolo bridge in action.

What happened to this strat? Anyone know. I imagine it would be very high on collectors' lists.

Bill Carsons wife Susan probably still has it.
It was said to have weighed 18 pounds.

Very cool. Is it playable with that lucite fingerboard/neck?

Bill Carson evenually sold the Lucite Strat® and some other Fender®-related bits and pieces to guitar enthusiast and writer John Sprung in the mid 1980's. (John's works include the excellent book, Fender Amps – The First Fifty Years.) John played the guitar a number of times and in his own words, the guitar "played pretty well."

The Guitar's Current Whereabouts

In 1990, John sold it to a private collector, who still owns the guitar to this day. Although it was originally billed as “The $1,000 Guitar”, it is quite clearly worth substantially more than that sum now. In a recent article in the U.S magazine, Guitar Player, the Lucite Strat® was described as “The most valuable non-celebrity solidbody Fender® ever made.”

I recently read about this in my Stratocaster Chronicals book and then found the same article posted in this thread. How in the world did I miss this thread? Haha! It is very interesting, indeed. I sure hope the Lucite Strat comes back into the public eye sometime soon! It's a pretty thing, isn't it...

Wow! The forum has livened up today with the contest kick-off!

Ha! The comments about the fish in the Strat remind me of this scene from 'I'm Gonna' Get You Sucka' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQKKgNC5EpM&feature=related

Don't forget that Ampeg sells the Dan Armstrong Plexi Guitar with a see thru plexiglass body.
