Hey, guys.

I'm using an Am Dlx Strat with S-1 switching. I just noticed that when I turn down the tone knob all the way and then turn down the volume knob the slightest bit below max, it starts making a hiss. This hiss is, of course, a lot more evident at higher gain levels. This occurs with all pickups (SCN's and humbucker).

Is this at all abnormal? :?:

My AmDlx SSS is completely silent across the board. Is it a very loud hiss or soft? What kind of amp? Decent cable? Straight to the amp? Sorry if I am asking too many questions.

Not a REALLY loud hiss... it's quiet @ 10... gets loud around 9 and then tapers off (obviously) as you keep twisting the volume knob. It's not the cable... I've tested multiple high-quality cables and all produce the same sound. I am not using any stomp pedals... straight to the amp. The amp is a Flextone III, but I've tested with multiple amps, and it does the same thing.

That's a strange one. Just a guess but maybe the capacitor is a little flakey? Are you the original buyer? If so take it to an authorized repair center.

that definitely sounds like it could be the tone potentiometer.

So from what I gather, this isn't a normal thing... well, then I guess I'll just have to go down to my local guitar shop. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. ;)

Both... regardless of whether it's up or down.

Yeah, actually. That's what's got me a little confused. I'm pretty sure it's not the pups, so I was thinking it's gotta be the pots or something else.

you need to have the pots replaced.

Don't jump to conclusions and replace all the pots. Check the guitar with multiple amps, cables, and even plugging the amps into different outlets. If none of this changes anything, I'd check the tone cap like chris63 said. It seems the more likely culprit to me.

sounds like a earth loop on the volume pot. The lowered resistance on 9 causes the earth to loop via the volume pot more instead of discharging into the guitar body via the trem claw or screw in the control cavity. As you lower the volume further it becomes less apparent because the volume is dropping. Its a doddle to sort and if you take the stings off the guitar first i couldnt see any tech charging more than 5 or 10 quid to sort it.
