I'm in cross roads whether to get an Am,erican Std strat or the Am deluxe. I know the deluxes has the S1 advantage, but apart from that are there any other differences (specially neck radius, fret height, playing feel)?.Someone said the deluxe had aged wood which gets dents & scratches more easily. Is this true?

The Deluxe has the pop-in trem bar (it doesn't screw in) and abalone dot markers (which I don't like). Check the specs up at the "Products" link above to see complete spec sheets on the two models.

The playing feel should be the same.

The Deluxe has locking tuners, stainless steel saddles, rolled fret edges,SCN pickups(noiseless),as mentioned, abalone dots,LSR roller nut,the aged wood thing is not true. I have both.If you want to save a couple hundred you won't be sorry with an American Standard.Great guitar.Mine plays like butterrrrrr 8) Mike

Is there any difference as far as neck feel is concerned?
I think the deluxe does not come in Sienna sunburst right?

The aged cherry burst color that the deluxe does come in looks very much like the sienna sunburst to me. That is going by the pictures I have seen.

As for comparing the neck feel. I know the '07 deluxe I played felt really nice. No complaints on the neck. It felt as slick as my '80 Plus Deluxe that has 28 years behind it. But I haven't played an American Standard to compare it with.

All that being said.
I was wanting a new Am Deluxe in the worst way just a few weeks ago. Enough time elapsed between that and finding an answer for a question I had that the yearning cooled off and died. Which saved me and my family a pile of money for a new guitar. Just a thought.

Hello my friend...

As you can see i've got the Am.Std.Strat in Sienna SB w/RW fretboard.
I tried the Deluxe also, before buying mine and i play it now ,too , as a good friend of mine bought it.
1. The cherry burst is as beautiful as the Sienna sunburst.A little bit more "live as a color i would say.
2. There is a very slight neck difference on the neck feel (at least to my own hands), but not better or worse, just different. Both necks are FANTASTIC.
3. No problems with the Std getting out of tune till now. Too good guitars to have such problems.
4. The Am.Std sounds (to me at least) more of what a Fender guitar should sound like, as long as the Deluxe sounds more modern, i would say even though with the right EQ you can see no difference.
5. S-1 switch is a great idea but my friend told me that he is not using it that much.Maybe you would. More sounds of course but not all of them being THAT interesting.
6. The same for the tremolo system. Generally the Std sounds more Vintage... to me again...

My friend i hope i helped a little bit. Generally speaking, if you want a guitar that is legendary but more modern you go for for the deluxe, if you want a guitar how Leo Fender designed it, go for the Std. In both cases you're gonna be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 per cent happy with your new guitar and there is magic in both of them so you won't regret it whichever you buy.

Greetings from Greece...
