Hi Guys,

Is there an advantage in the trapeze orientation of the tremolo springs over straight orientation?

Thx

Supposedly Eric Johnson can hear the difference.

dont know if he can hear the difference of different amount of springs, but he can hear the difference when the backplate is on or off especially when he uses his fuzz pedal...

I don't know about Eric Johnson's preternatural hearing, but he designed one hell of a stratocaster.

If you don't move the screws, it will bring the tremelo back a little more. (adds a little more tension) Moving the screws in and out of the body will also affect tremelo. If your tremelo is already sitting flush or all the way back, it does nothing. If you have a Floyd Rose or some other 2 point tremelo system, that is when you need to muck with that stuff. As stated earlier..."personal choice" if the springs are trapezoidal or straight. Friend of mine only uses 2 springs...states he liked the action of the tremelo bar that way.

I would also suggest that it depends on the guitar and how you want it to play. The more 'vintage' years are fitted with a heavy trem block and five heavy springs in parallel, as standard'

As far as I can determine it's a personal preference thing for the most part. I think it makes sense to focus most of the spring pull near the screwws rather than at the outside edges of the trem claw. But that's just me.

I dont know why but I think when you ahve the springs on parallel with each other you get a better sustain than if you are using the other options.......
probably a 0.000999% better but still better :P
