Would not intentionally beat up my guitars. Like to keep them new, but over the years usage and aging is just natural and that looks cool. I do have one guitar with a minor dent in it due to my (now dead) cat knocking it off its stand one night while I was sleeping.

Is the cat dead because it knocked over your guitar. I know if a pet did that to any of my guitars it would be off to the pound for them.

Nah, I still had him until he choked at 18 years of age. he was a very cool cat. But believe me, he never did it again.

I don't mind dings and the wear of normal usage and time. It just gives the guitar that played in vibe. Kinda like me....dinged up and worn down a bit.

I keep mine nice and shiny. I have a 20 year old Strat that I don't think has a scratch on it. However, there's something to be said for the well worn road veteran that rides in the battered case covered with stickers from everywhere. Lots of character.

I would never beat up or damage my guitar, the weathering from my playing and use I think is cool. Relics look cool, but paying extra for a guitar that was professionally beat up at the factory just don't seem right.

It Chobey again -

I have to agree with hrt4hoops. The relic Guitars are way overpriced. And also, my MIM Strat is an extremely shiny midnight blue, so I think it would look kinda ugly if it were to get weathered a bit. I mean, I think a shiny purple and dull brown guitar wouldn't look too good. That's why I try to keep it in tip top condition. But If my guitar were another color, or if is didn't have a polyurithane finish, things would be different.

I agree With the majority. I've mever purchased a Bramd-new Guitar, but I'm never going to fork over extra bucks for 'relic ' finishes just play 'em long enough & it happens naturally!! I also don't cry over every ding my axes get, so long as i know its not intentional abuse.

I think natural wear and tear on a guitar looks great. But I think the ageing of a guitar should be natural not intentional. As for cleaning I keep my guitars polished regularly and clean my fret board each time I change strings. 8)

I have an original 72 Strat that I've had since it was new. The urethane they put on these things will hardly wear away on the neck. In 35 years of playing it almost every day, it's still there. I consider natural wear Mojo and a thing of beauty. I haven't ever seen a relic that looks real. I have rust on my bridge saddles along with grooves cut into them from from whammy bar use. I have dings and scratches that were all accidental. It still plays and sounds amazing. It is a huge part of me with all the sweat and funk that goes along with heavy gigging. I played so much all I ever did was give it a quick wipe down when I was done playing it. Never had time for polish. If you want quick natural wear, get a nitro finish.

I would never scratch up my guitar intentionally. And I do polish my guitars every once in awhile, I like them shiny! But that doesnt mean that I'm too careful with my guitars. You can have some roughed up parts on your guitar but still have it polished, I feel that it makes it look more professional. But polish isnt like an anti-aging magical thing for guitars.

I think Strats & Teles are the only guitars that look better over the years. I beat up Jackson just doesn't look as good a well worn strat.

I'm not a lover of the "Relic" guitar.

I like them to look nice - natural wear and tear is fine.

I wouldn't buy one of the Fender Relic Guitars - I would buy something new - it can be of an old design - but I want it new.
