i bought a american special mahogany hss strat about 4 months ago for $1000, and now just looking at some websites, they are starting to list them for $1200, so does this mean my strat just went up in value? or are there a couple more fender's that's been getting more expensive recently?

As far as the "value" of your Strat goes, the additional $200 on the current retail could get you closer to breaking even if you ever decided to sell. Just like cars, once you drive a new one off the lot, you take a hit on the resale "value".

I'm not sure about Strats, but I noticed a few of the MIM Classic Series RI Teles ('69 & '72 Thinlines, '72 Deluxe) jumped up $50 yesterday. Now that I think about it, the MIM Cray Sig Strat seemed a little higher, but I could be wrong about that one.

Gibsons increased in price recently, but it was A LOT more than $50.

when i 1st played that strat, and noticed it had the s1 switch, tex mex and diamond back bucker, lsr roller nut and locking tuners. the new ones dont come with s1 switch. never ther less. it was the most souped up strat for the price of the am strd strat.
from a grand to 1200.
yeah i would say that fender must have reconsidered the price for more of an awesome deluxe strat.
congrats...

Seems to me that prices seem to go up about once a year or so on guitars and amps.

I just bought an amp about a year ago, and already it's $100 more in price.

Two of my guitars have gone up in price in the short time that I've owned them too.

Keep it in good condition for 25 years or so, and it will go up quite a bit in value :)

The MSRP of your model went up. Your guitars value probably didn't change much at all. It's probably worth about $800.

I'm going to have to hang on to my '83 Standard for about twice that for it to increase in any value.

Yea, right near the end of the CBS era, with all their cost cutting going on.

I noticed the price jump on that one also. I think it is oil and fuel costs that are causing guitar prices to go up, but Fender seems to always raise prices on certain models according to how popular they are. A couple of years ago you could get a Hwy 1 model most places for 629.00 and look at the prices now. When I purchased my American Strat in 2004 I paid 750.00 brand new and now they are right at 1,000.

There's no doubt about it Randy... When Oil and gas prices climb, everything else does. That's a fact. I was astounded yesterday at my paltry job- I work at a WallyWorld. Literally, 10s of thousands of items in grocery, electronics, Pets (you name it) had Price Increases. It WILL be no different in Music Instruments. So, I am sure glad to have bought American Standard.
