After the 4th comment from guys regarding my Strat (kinda Gilmourish, reminds me of Gilmour, is that a tribute to his #1, looks like his #1), I finally asked a guy to fill me in. I had no clue.

When I bought my new American Deluxe in Olympic White Pearl (for those who haven't seen the color, its very nice. Kind of a cream with tiny pearl sparkles that are visible from within ~5'), I didn't really care for the brown tortous shell pickguard. Ordered a 3 ply w/b/w Fender, still have it but didn't place it on as I thought it was too white for the cream. So I looked on line at all available. Didn't want to try any of the after markets, as from what I was gathering it seemed like they were mostly made for MIM's, apparantly, and not all the holes lined up.

Fenders gold anodized aluminum was the only one I saw that I thought would go well with the guitar. But I've never really been into gold, so I reluctantly ordered it. Put it on, and though it looked good to me, I still wasn't sure. My Son thought immediately it was awesome. It began to grow on me. It did look real nice next to the Blues Jr. NOS in the laquered tweed.

I'm a big fan of his. Grew up listening to Pink Floyd. Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here are 3 of my very favorite albums.

Ironically, before anyone mentioned the above, there was already a framed picture of him from the '70's hanging on my wall right above where the Strat and BJ are. (In it, he's playing a red Strat with a white picguard).

I think I'll leave it on.

Picture didn't do it justice, and the flash kind of made the gold a bit darker than it is.

I didn't photobucket the next link.

I love the DG Strat Pack performance.

Watch the way he plays that guitar. In one word, lovingly.

Amazing stuff.

Very cool.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day Fender do a Gilmour 0001 Strat - but unlike the current Sig that will be the full Custom Shop Tribute deal and way beyond the means of most of us.

I like your route better - and I bet Gilmour would too. He (clearly) thinks guitars are for playing, not for putting in glass cabinets.

Cheers - C

Guitars ARE for playing. Couldn't agree more.

[quote="Blue Jay Way"]I love the DG Strat Pack performance.

Man...I simply stumbled into that DVD browsing through the music video section of a Borders Bookstore in Redmond WA about two years ago while on one of my visits.
What an amazing find. What a historical array of talent, kicking it off with 'The Crickets!

Recommended for everyone's collection.

Isn't the number on Gilmour's 0001 ?

After a few hundred strats had their serial numbers on the plastic trem cover, 4 digit serial numbers were put on the metal neck plate.

I'll have to google it ...

"The alternate theory about the guitar’s origins"
at that gilmourish web site are interesting, conflicting, and somewhat confusing.
