How bad is the buzz? Can you hear it through the amp?

I've never played a strat that didn't buzz when played acoustically. As ics1974 asked, can you hear the buzz through the amp or only when you play it acoustically? Unless it's buzzing through the amp I wouldn't worry about it.

Don't take this question the wrong way, but ... you are tuned to a normal E, right? If you are tuned flat, it could buzz based on how flat you are.

i agree..
take a step back, take a deep breath.
1. now 1st check the truss rod. capo 1st fret, depress the 21/22 fret.
see if the 12th fret depresses, ther should be a little gap.
2. check the bridge, hows the height. check fender specs for bridge height.
((((not the saddle height.))) you may need to adjust the springs slightly. but leave that till last until the intonation is done.
3. now set the saddle heights 4/64 ((w/o capo) @ 17th fret)
4. check for buzz. if there is, you can adjust height accordingly
5. then intonation setup w/ tuner at 12th fret. adjust the length of the strings, with the screws behind each saddle, not flat/not sharp should be tuned.
6. recheck everything.

remember take your time, be patient. if you feel your stressing out, take a breath. relax, smoke some w*&& just kidding.
give it a try

its either the Action, the truss rod adjustment, or if it buzzes without your left hand on it then it could be a very used nut that needs to be replaced....
it could also be used frets orr maybe the strings :P

Hi Guys,

Ive just given my Fender HH guitar a full setup restrung, truss rod, action, intonation and it will not stop fret buzzing! Im at the end of the road with it i really am...4 hours and have got nowhere.

I set the action to 4/64 recommended by fender, i even set it higher..still buzzes...only when i set it stoopidly high does it stop. Everything has measured three times checked retuned......i just dont know what to do.

Am i missing something? Do HH strats have a different setup???

I dont have a fender dealer anywhere near me.....!!

HELP!!

If you have tried everything and it still buzzes. . . . . Neext question.
Are you a guitar tech?
If YES I'd say you're screwed.
I NO I'd suggest that you take it to a trained professional.

I'm not implying that you aren't skilled at basic guitar setup and maintenance, most of us do as much as we can. But if your skills can't locate or remedy the problem, it's time to call in a professional.

Try lowering your pickups a bit.

If it ain't buzzing when the strings are open then it likely isn't the nut; which is good news. It almost certainly means it is addressable with the setup.

I have no idea of your skill level and I don't at all want to insult you if you know what you are doing. But I'm afraid this is almost certainly a case for starting a full setup from the very beginning and working it through in the logical step-by-step order.

There's always more to learn about this stuff. I very much like the method of Albert Garcia, a Fender employee whom Dan Erlewine cites at length in the Guitar Player Repair Guide (p29-30 of the current edition). Slightly different procedure than some of us are used to, and very effective. You'll have no high string buzz at the end of that routine...

Good luck - C

Hey I have a Question about this topic I have an american deluxe v-neck strat and i love it :D but resently my strings have started buzzing.I have not had a problem with this before also the tuning has started giving me trouble. Here is the difficult part i tune a half step down and i have strung 11 guage strings on it before and then went back to 10s (they hurt my fingers to much lol) also the strings that seem to buzz keep changing it started with the low e so i raised the bridge satle and it stoped but then the g and b strings started buzzing. It has effected my sustain and clarity a bit. the neck is adjusted well and has a little bit of concave relief and is set up well it has three springs in the back. If anyone can help it would be a great help.
