70's mexican strat?

With a $950 budget I'd start lookin at used Am. Deluxe strats, not $200 mexi-strats.

 Where are you finding mexican strats for $200 bucks??? Are you talking something like, used off of ebay, or brand new??? Just wondering.

Thanks for all the advice......it is greatly appreciated. With it all, I'm going to Guitar Center this weekend and take a Highway 1 for a drive. I really like the look of the red w/ a maple neck, so I hope it plays and feels as good as it looks. 8)

well, I went to my local guitar center this weekend to test drive the highway 1 strat, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised, I really like the feel , quality and playability of this guitar, however, I did not favor the large 70's style headstock. That for me, was the deal breaker. I just could not get past the size of that thing. Otherwise, it is an awesome guitar.

An American Strat. :D
No doo dads, just an American. :D
2001 or later. :D
NO to the noiseless pickups, or anything with ceramic magnet pickups.

I would definetly say an American Standard is perfect for your budget. I've got two and I can't be happier. I was able to get a 2003 American Standard used for $600.
