COMPLETELY different guitars :)

To me, an SG is a average humbucker guitar with a Gibson stamp on it, and pretty ugly to me. In fact, I can't think of another guitar I like the looks of less than that. No offense, but it's not me. Les Paul's, though still not my thing, are outstanding guitars and beautiful, same with PRS.

But, everyone's got their own preference.

Make it specific. Epiphone SG or Gibson SG? Squire Stratocaster or Fender Stratocaster? By the way, gotta love Gibson, they been making nice quality guitars since they started. :o

I'd say Strat but I have to admit that I've really not spent much time playing the SG. However, ergonomically, for my nothing beats a Strat. But humbuckers do sound nice on occasion.

This question keeps coming up. I wonder why people think there's a correlation between the two?

Bottom line, are you a humbucker guy or a single coil guy. That's where the answer lies.

I played everything in the store. Between Gibson SG or Fender Strat. I ended up with the Strat; however, I would have gotten the Gibson Les Paul if I had the money for it.

Strat, without a doubt. I own a Strat and I've played my friend's SG. There is no doubt that an SG sounds simply AMAZING through a Marshall Stack, but when i tried to pull a Hendrix/Thorogood type solo, it threw a great big sulk. The action was simply not cut out for it and the high notes didn't scream like they should've. In the end, I'll put my faith in a Strat anyday.

"Strat or SG?"

Why would I have to choose between those two?

I would like to have an SG and a couple of Strats, please.

Skip the Bigsby on the SG though.

The only Gibson SG that I like is the SG Classic, which has P90 single coils instead of humbuckers. I've played several of them, at different stores, and the Gibson SG Classic is an absolute tone monster. Just behind the Gibson SG Classic, in the tone monster category, is the Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cut, which I own one of, so I have a bit more experience with that one.

And then I also have a handfull (literally, I have 5 varying configurations) of Strats, so all is well in my little part of the universe. :)

Matt
