dear Community

For guitar storage at home what is better?
Hang it on the wall?
Or put it on a stand ?

Till a moment ago I was almost sure that it does not matter .Now I read some forum threats which say that hanging will lead to constant retune and adjustment of the tuss rod.Which I do not want to do.

What is reality
Is there a Fender recommendation

I do not want to put them in cases as I like to see them

Any competent answer welcome

Thanks

Roland

I think with any musical instrument, the best option is to leave it in the case when you aren't playing.

Not so special one custom shop NOS 66, a Highway 1 ,a Eric Clapton and (sorry for here) annother Fender a G&L Comanche. If I can I play 2 of them daily, max non playing time maybe a week.

I am renovating my living room and had decided to hang them. This as my granddaughter (18 month) is very interested in guitars and against her Jimi Hendrix was an orphan(Yesterday she dismounted the tremolo lever on the G&L not that I use it so often (not my playing style) but was a bit of shock). She can easily access as they are all on stands now.

Therefore my question

As I am a bit nervous I asked Fender customer service and they said best is case, hanger or stand does not matter as long as the material doesnt ruin the paint. As they are fender hangers should be no issue

thanks for help anyway

Roland

I have hangers off and on over the years and didn't notice any problems with detuning or other instability. Just make sure something (a bit of foam perhaps) is behind where the body sits next to the wall. This should negate any ill effects from unintentional "wall bonking".

I prefer and always keep my guitars in the case. I play enough, so that I get to see them, then. And I rotate playing each guitar, so I'm always able to see them.

I think the best idea is cases. You spent the money already on some good gear. So why go cheap and hang them? They can fall.

I've used hangers for 14 years now with no detrimental effects to any of my guitars. The stress the weight of a les paul body (never mind a strat) puts on the neck when hung is nothing in comparison to the stress the strings put on a neck all the time. Do we detune the guitar when its not in use to combat this stress, no were advised that reducing string tension has a detrimental effect to the neck.
The only thing i do to wall hangers is put a thin strip of foam behind where the bottom of the body would touch the wall if the guitar was knocked. I've never had one fall and never suffered from it getting knocked by a angry spouse hoovering, or a toddler's interest.
Just make sure the hanger goes into a stud in the wall. The tip for locating studs is to tap the wall. Where the stud is'nt will sound hollower to where the stud is.

My electric (MIA Am Std Strat) and my acoustic (Taylor 310) are almost always on a stand in my designated music room. I, too, like to leave them out as I can hear them calling out to me better than when they're in their cases.

However, as far as my acoustic goes, I do find that it plays better when I store it in the case with a humidification device during those periods of time when I play nothing but my Strat. I think that offers the ultimate protection and humidity level for an all solid wood acoustic (probably for the solid wood Strat too).

But they're both such beautiful guitars, and since I play one or the other basically every day, I just like to have them sitting out staring at me most of the time.

Got kids? Animals? Drunk buddies? Then I'd say avoid the stands.
Live in an earthquake zone? Then I'd say avoid the walls. I've seen guitars slamming against a wall and each other during an earthquake, it wasn't pretty.

The safest place for your guitar at all times is the case.

I live in earthquake country too! I never thought of that, and wall hangers. Yep......my guitars are staying in the case......

I keep mine in a case or in a stand. They do add something to the living room de'cor. Guitar shops all hang them. I don't see a real problem with any of these methods. If you have animals in the house they may be safer on the wall. If you have kids they may be safer in the case.
