Hi, Orvilleowner:

You very likely know about this already. But just in case...

I haven't been to Callaham's website for a long while, so I was just taking a turn thereabouts when I saw the following. Naturally I thought of that '54 of yours with its skinny heel end. Obviously, I'm imagining a "temporary" swap to improve playability, without injuring the guitar in any way. This one gives almost a quarter inch closer string spacing: any use?

Cheers - C

...here it is:

http://www.callahamguitars.com/ Which says:

WHAT'S NEW !

Limited Production Callaham Narrow 2 1/16 String Spaced Bridge Assemblies.

To fill the need of a complete vintage styled 2 1/16 string spaced bridge assembly we have set up a limited production run to keep cost affordable for everyone.

...

V/N Model: This is a complete assembly that has vintage 2 7/32 (56mm) mounting spacing but with the narrow 2 1/16 string spacing. It will fit any body with vintage mounting. It is specifically for those who have the E strings too close to the edge of the fretboard or use humbucking pickups. Your strings will now be better positioned on the neck and line up over the poles of humbucking pickups. Price is $175.00.

Naturally both models are made using the exact same materials and construction as our Vintage S model Strat Bridge. These are complete assemblies that come with top plate, block, saddles, 5 tremolo springs, claw and 2 claw screws, 6 hardened tremolo mounting screws, all stainless steel screws, adjustment wrench, and "64" virtual pop-in arm with tip comes stock. Our other 2 length arms can be substituted at no additional cost but you must specify at time of order. Also, please specify mint green or parchment white tip.

Hmmm, I will need to make some measurements.

It gives me a couple of ideas. Thanks for pointing that out.

coming back to this ...

I measured the bridge on my early 2006 Highway One. It's string spacing is 2 3/16, but at the 21st fret the strings are 1 15/16. That might work on my old Strat (the bridge's string spacing is 2 1/4 & the 21st fret measured only 2" wide); I'd might be able to play both E strings on all frets.

Do newer Highway One bridge's have narrower string spacing? I thought I read that.

That Callaham's spacing of 2 1/16 is narrower still! So it'd give me plenty of room on that old Strat. Maybe I'll try the Highway One bridge first, since it doesn't cost me anything out of pocket!

Hi, Orvilleowner. Thanks for the update. Be great if it actually came to something, one way or another - let us know if it does, please.

I worry about that guitar sometimes... :D
