Laces are very different, and most people don't like them or sound good on them. Keep the Americans, which are great, until you play on some Laces and find that you like them.

You need a certain attack and feel to get a good tone out of them. My friend plays very well, but sounds bad on my strat with lace sensors. He also has a very light touch. I have a much more aggressive attack and I love the tone I get out of them, so they need to be played on first before you can decide if you sound good on them.

Try some texas specials, or some seymour duncans...

Er - some people like 'em a lot!

If I only had one Strat it probably wouldn't have Sensors on. But if I had two or more (which I do) then the second one would have the LSs - which it does!

Several good threads already about those pups. Have a little search, why not?

Cheers - C

Edited for typo

Which setup of Laces do you have, Ceri? I heard some Hot Golds over the weekend and was most impressed....

Those Golds are very nice. Do I remember right, is that what Clapton used, or was it Silver? Which ever, I saw him recently and he was still using a Sensor equiped Strat for much of the evening. And unusually for such a big show you could really hear the beauty of the guitar tone (best big PA I can ever remember hearing).

My set is Silver, Blue, Red. I won't bore everyone with this again, but in short I run them in that order, neck to bridge, rather than Fender's usual arrangement with Silver in the middle. I use the Silver most - similar to your Golds, just a touch more output.

Cheers - C

I thought EC used regular Golds. But I could be wrong, my pea brain doesn't keep up with things like it used to.

One of his two Strats that evening definitely had Sensors on. I wasn't far from the stage, but I certainly couldn't see whether they were Silver or Gold. Sounded right on the money, in any case. Best Clapton show I've seen - that fella's had his ups... and his downs.

I have a JB Jr on the bridge, a Silver Lace in the middle and a Blue Lace at the neck. I've played around with tons of pickups, and this is my top choice for my main Strat. I love the tones I get from Lace Sensors, or I'd used something else. But, I've rarely found other strat players that love them as much as I do, or can get the tones they want out of them.

I have gold lace sensors on my american strat pluss deluxe, I have no problems with their sound, if it looks like a strat & it sounds like a strat it must be a strat

I love the sound that I get with the blue lace sensor on the neck. I have a MIM deluxe players strat which has a switch that activates the bridge pickup when you have the neck or neck/middle pickups selected. I find that I can get a lot more out of the pickups this way. When I want to add a little definition to the blue lace I turn on the red. Mabey people also miss the sight of the pole peices on the pickups, I do every now and then.

yeah, I love that blue lace sensor on my neck too. they're great, VERY quiet, i love the tone, and I can get some mean texas blues howling out of that thing, more than any other pickup I've had there. And I hated it when I first put it in, thought it was muddy, unfocused and horrible. One day, I was playing some blues on it, (which I playing a little more aggressively than most other styles) and feel in love with the tone. That's when I learned how to make them sound good. Now, I won't part with them.

They are neat pickups and super quiet but you have to learn how to play them. There will be an adjustment period when you will probably hate the darned things. I used them for awhile they are a good pickup but I did got back to more traditional pickups.

I agree with the above. It took me awhile to lie them and many of my cronies never did care for their sound. They are a bit "processy" but the fidelity is excellent and a good pick if you have more than one strat or perhaps are not a strat person. To me they do clean much better than crunch, as they are very compressed-sounding. I find that I like my stock-pickup strat more.

I have the silver (middle) and blue (neck) on my main strat. I play hi-gain stuff at times, but that's usually with the bridge (jb jr), and sometimes on the neck.

Like 90% of what i play is mid-gain stuff, somewhere between a Santana tone and Pearl Jam, a little lower at times too. For that, these pickups are great to me. Single coil grit and no noise. Another big thing for me, they FEEL like single coils to me from the response I get from them.
