It's kind of wierd, but I find cool that I have played guitar to the point where my fingers started to bleed. This was when I was developing calluses on my fingers. I was playing and the string cut into my finger because my fingertips were so deteriorated. Anyway, now I got something to boast. :)

when i was a kid i attempted it after reading a interview with steve harris of maiden, where he said 'you've got to practice until....'. When i realized i wouldnt be able to play the day after i gave up on the idea.

I've never seen anyones fingers bleed from playing in the last 38 years. As far as I'm concerned, if your fingers are bleeding, you're doing something wrong.

Nah, I just played a lot that one day. It hasn't happened since then so it was a probably just a one time deal.

I've had it happen a couple of times. Usually from bending strings. I'll rip my fingernail from the nail bed and blood will ooze out from under my nail. I also covered a friends new Washburn acoustic in blood from my right hang middle finger. Tore skin from my finger strumming too hard. He was not impressed.lol!

Ouch! I was just sliding my index finger against the b string to another note and then it sliced into my finger.

I totally agree. I've played literally all day before, like 12 hrs of playing or more, and not just a few chords strums, but PLAYING and jamming. Other than my hands being tired and maybe a nail ripped from the finger tip (hate that), there was never anything close to blood.

Even when I've dropped the guitar for a while to focus on my bass playing (no pick, slapping, etc), and I'd go at it all day, for days on end for certains gigs, etc. My hands would be tired, but never any blood or anything.

When I was a lot younger and playing in Hanover Fist I used to play between 8 to 9 hours a day 7 days a week. My fingers never bled unless I had a cut that opened up while playing, but for a little while they were so tender that it was extremely painful to play at all. Well it all paid off in time so now if I play that much in a day, it doesn't even phase me anymore.

Bending does the same thing to my fingernails but I've never seen anyone bleed from playing guitar. That's rough.

On a related note, if you cut your finger and need to play a gig try superglue.

Hey Stratheads-

Never had the bleeding issue but I did have an issue with my hand falling asleep. The solution is to adjust your strap so that your wrist is more perpendicular to your Guitar Neck . Its like Carpal Tunnel (sp). Your wrist should come from behind your neck ...not from underneath. Also you can find a neck that is a better fit to your hand.

Just my $ .02
