I've always preferred single coils to humbuckers.

Your secret is safe here man. I won't tell a soul!

Ya know, it's odd to me that there's not much action here on the P90. I know it's not a Fender type pup, but man...thats one hell of a pickup.

3 singles for me too. Add a clapton mid boost and its like having 3 singles or 3 buckers.

Tell you something interesting, because it relates to a recent topic of conversation. I have the same issues with the three pickup configuration
(sss or hss) that Robertson has. I find that I have to play between the neck and the middle, or the middle and the bridge. When I had my Tele-plus it had a blue lace at the neck and a red lace dually, at the bridge. I had more flexibility in terms of position.

This is, in concept, how Roberton's guitar is configured. (But not exactly withrespect to pickup design. Let's not go there presently. We have already 'murdered' that one.) I was actually thinking on having the CS build me a Strat with that power plant.

I believe that Fender started the HH configuration when it built a limited series of guitars for Guitar Center one year around holiday season, which had two red lace duallys. One neck, one bridge. It was called the NY Strat.

However traditionalists, and purists, may hold that the 'real thing' will forever be as Leo first conceived it.

There's no accounting for tastes and product development knows that.

Well, we're nearing the end of today's run, and you guys on the other side of the pond should be ready to pack it in.

Maybe tomorrow.

Doc

I went with HSS, cuz that's what I have, and bsides that, i have always liked it the best. (in regards to the strat. A tele must have all singles, whether it's a 2 pup or 3 pup variety.) My strat has a coil tap switch and I custom wired it so that I get an utra-thin (almost tele bridge) sound in the blend position between HB and middle. It's pretty sweet. My Ibanez is a HH setup and it's okay and all, but sometimes I want to be able to switch quickly from single to HB and vice versa. My modeling effects pedal can thin out or thicken the sound to make single sound like HB or vice versa, but it's not the same. Also, the pedal picks up and amplifies a local Fox Sports Radio station cuz the tower is in the corn field acrossthe road from me. when I use my pedal, I can play guitar and catch up on sports at the same time. I digress...

I voted SSS because I use the bridge p/u almost exclusively for surf music. In fact, the only Fender I own with a HB in the bridge is my Cyclone.

I prefer the single coil config, but also use hss Strats.

To me a Strat should be SSS. If I want a Humbucker tone I use an LP.

I voted SSS. I love the variations of combining the pickups. Preferably, the neck & middle together.

I also like the bridge for solos believe it or not. With the right (dark) overdrive tone you can get some really nice lead tones out of a strat bridge , just listen to Eric Johnson & Yngwie for an idea.

Often times HSS is too "hot" in the bridge, but if set just right a great pickup config. as well.
