Hello all, I'm new to the Forum. After spending many hours reading these forums, talking with Strat players and just reading as much as I can, i'm slowly saving enough money to buy a team-built one-off Stratocaster. It will be my very first Strat so I want it to count.

At first, I was going to get a production line Vintage Hot-Rod 62 or an Eric Johnson; I like them both as they have vintage specs with modern specs and of course a Nitro finish; however, I've decided that for about $1200-1300.00 more, I can have a one-off that I'll keep until the day I die.

I know it's a about a year turnaround but it's worth the wait. Here is what I'm thinking and I'd really appreciate your thoughts. I'm going to start with a Time Machine NOS 56', modified with a 9.5' radius, light ash body in bing cherry transparent with thin-skin nitro finish, high figured neck, dark rosewood board with a Soft V-neck. I'm looking for a nice balance between vintage and modern.

After I get the guitar, i'm throwing in a Callaham S-Bridge. I'll probably leave the pickups in because they are wound as period specific but if for some reason I don't like them, i'll throw some Lindy Fralins in there. So i'd like your thoughts on this proposed one-off.

First of all, Welcome to the forum!! That sounds like a very nice set of specs. I know nothing about that particular bridge, so I won't comment, but I've heard other posters love it. Have you talked to anyone from the Custom Shop? That's where I'd start, but seems you have put some thought into what you want. Sounds great! Good luck my friend! 8)

Thank you for the welcome, appreciate that. I haven't talked to anyone yet from the shop. I have spoken with Steve Pisani at the NYC Sam Ash, he designed the Custom Classic model Strat available from the Custom Shop. I have also talked to a Strat fanatic at a Guitar Center here in NJ. He convinced me to go with the Time Machine model over the Custom Classic, simply for the vintage design specs, etc. Either way, this process of thinking over models, specs, etc is enjoyable for me.

Except for the color, those specs sound a lot like these Thin Skin models you can find at some well-respected internet shops:

'54 Thin Skin Strat, New, 2 Tone Sunburst, Ash body, Big '54 neck with a 9.5 radius and Dunlop 6105 frets, 5 way switch, Custom Shop pickups, with Center Pocket Tweed case.

'59 Thin Skin Strat, New, White Blonde with Ash body, Single ply 8 screw pickguard, Big C neck with slab rosewood fingerboard, 9.5 radius and Dunlop 6105 frets, 5 way switch, Custom Shop pickups, with hardshell case.

Of course, a place like Warmoth would happily make a body just as you like ... pair that custom body with one of these Thin Skin's neck/parts and you'd have it.
