I was going to say that I'm amazed by the lack of varying replies here.
SRV, Gilmour, Gallagher, Hendrix, Jeff Beck......All the same names again.

But I'm not suprised.

There are other guitarsists in the world! You don't have to just listen to those people featured in the Frontline catlalog!!

Ok, so I was slightly harsh in my opinions. Not many bands I like are seen playing strats. Teles, jaguars, jazzmasters seem to be the hip guitars to have in the underground indie scene, but here's some cool dudes!

Image
Buddy, of course!

Image
Al Jardine

Image
Ronnie Wood

Image
Rivers Cuomo (Weezer)

Image
Nick Mccabe (The Verve)

Image
John Squire (The Stone Roses)

Image
Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes)

And, of course Andre 3000!

And I'll admit - Dave Gilmour is pretty chuffing good......

.....Jeff Beck though???? Jesus! Intolerable!

Stevie Ray Vaughan... He had so much heart and was so inviting in his music. He could start a conversation with music man! 8)

Stevie Ray Vaughan. There are so many great strat players out there, Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmour, to name a very few. But I heard SRV for the 1st time when I was 14. I had been goofing off on guitar for a few years, but after I heard SRV it lit a fire under me & my fingers. I was playing in my first band less than a year after that.

even though the answer to this question does not have to have some qualification or justification - your favorite player is because he/she is....what an impossible question!! But for me its slowhand. There are no particular things about that answer. Technical prowess, feel, etc. There are many players with attributes that are better in one area or another than other players. But I saw him in Indy this summer, (seen his shows so many times) and when he and the band came out and played the opening notes to 'tell the truth', well, it may not be the most difficult thing in the world but it does for me.

Fair enough - I'll eat my words! But note all the SRV's after my post!

Well I must say, my favorite stratocaster player is by far John Frusciante. He's my favorite guitarist in general. I'm not saying he's the best or the fastest or anything but that's not what guitar is about. He just puts so much emotion into his playing it's amazing. This is obviously just my opinion though. :D

You want soul? Try Mickey Melchiondo (aka Dean Ween). I vote him for best guitar face ever.
