Doesn't all of that filler stop the guitar from breathing?

A new compliment comes to mind: "Ceri, that new guitar of yours sure has nice lungs!"

So far I've successfully restrained myself from asking what they think they mean when people post that nitro helps the guitar "breath". Don't want to be truculent...

Oh dear - I saw an old episode of Family Guy where the people of my nation were mocked fairly ruthlessly for their verbal pretensions.

...Still, might as well try to live up to the stereotype...

 - C

PS After all, I can't even try to eat 52 eggs, since my doctor spoke the dread word - cholesterol...

It's a sad world when one must apologize for a bit of intellect (not that that is what Ceri was doing).
I'm pretty happy that it appears our next president will have a bit more smarts than the current one ...

I'll always applaud a well stocked vocabulary that's properly used.
It is NOT pretentious to make full use of your vocabulary. Rather, it's sad to dumb down your vocabulary in order to make others more comfortable. We shouldn't be striving for the lowest common denominator linguistically.

just goes to show how caught up we get in the world of guitars.
I particularly liked the phrase 'your guitar wood stopped breathing within hours of the tree being cut down'.
You wouldnt want your guitar to bloom would you?

The key point people overlook is that the paints Fender used were automotive paints. Did people like their cars to breathe? To rust or not to rust, that is the paint question.

I do believe that people mean resonate when they say their guitar bodies breathe.

Excellent! Need to bookmark that one, for future use.

Also: people need to be a little careful talking about "poly", as if polyester and polyurethane were the same thing. They very much are not.

And while we're about it, the word "lacquer" is not synonymous with nitrocellulose. Actually, literally lacquer only means a type of varnish made with a colorant dissolved in the "juice" of the lacquer tree, as in "Japan lacquer". Not too many electric guitars finished with that!

There. Got that off my chest...
