If any one is 20 steps behind, it is YOU (no offense intended) with your Epi SG. Take it from me with a '76 Gibson.

Welcome mark1112. I have 1 '08 Am Std 3-tone sunburst with maple fretboard. I sold a MIM Strat and Epi Les Paul to help acquire the MIA Strat and I couldn't be happier. Anyway, here she is.

Hello 01GT eibach, that is a sweet vintage guitar you have. What is the purpose of the metal plate below the bridge? Is it just for looks? It works for me.

Yes, the plate under the bridge is just for looks. That plate was used as part of a non-Bigsby tremelo that used to be put on SGs in the late 60s.

I bought the SG in 1981 from Mike Varney who was the one who added that plate. He founded the Shrapnel Records, Tone Center and Blues
Bureau International record labels. He was also the guy who "discovered" many shred-guitar heroes including:
Yngwie Malmsteen, Richie Kotzen, Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, Greg Howe, Marty Friedman, Michael Lee Firkins, Vinnie Moore and Jason Becker.
