Hi, sorry for keep on bragging about my new guitar ('69 custom shop btw  ) but I'v found something whats annoying me a bit.
The High E-String keeps on slipping off the neck and I noticed that the string is closer to the bottom of the neck and on my American Series Strat the String is slightly higher from the bottom of the neck.
I'd like to know if it was like that on all '60's strats?

Thanks.

Is the spacing the same between grooves on the nut? It sounds like some filing might solve your problem, or a new nut.

Orvilleowner had some mighty interesting stuff to say about that issue on his genuine 1954 Strat. However, by the '60s it was long solved, and of course yours is a reissue.

What you've got is a neck out of alignment. The well-known fix is to loosen the screws that bolt the neck into its pocket a tad and then take the neck in your left hand while holding the body firmly with your knee and right hand. You then pull carefully upwards on the neck, so as to just turn it very slightly in the pocket, anti-clockwise as you look from the front of the guitar.

When the neck is in the right alginment, in other words with the high and low E strings similar distances from the edges of the fingerboard (or however else you want them aligned), you then tighten the screws again to hold securely in place.

However. Be aware, neck pockets vary one from another as to the tightness of their fit. If you go madly yanking at the neck you could easily damage the timber around the mouth of the pocket and that would be very bad news for your guitar. If you are in any doubt at all about carrying out this adjustment take the guitar to a decent tech. It is a couple of minutes work for him and will cost you pennies. Much better to be safe than sorry on this kind of thing. Well worth heeding that advice.

Good luck - C

The problem is fairly common with '50s Strats, but can be found throughout the years.

It is a good idea to loosen the strings before you loosen the neck bolts, but don't remove the strings as you need them to check the alignment.

If you can't get both E strings to play without falling off the neck, align them so that the high E is as you like.
