Hello,
My first post and I have a little problem with a MIM strat I picked up about a month ago. This is a used one made in 99. I have the intonation on all the strings right except the low E string. I have bottomed the spring out and the E string is still to sharp. Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks

Sure, shorten the spring. Get out your wire cutters and start snipping off turns until you can get the saddle in the right place.

I've found that a small shim in the neck pocket might help. I've used folded "post-it" notes even and it makes a big difference.

Interesting side point (interesting to hopeless geeks like me, anyway). I only noticed quite recently that Fender produce two different sizes of saddle spring, obviously for this very reason.

Check the parts list of some, but not all, Strats for the model number for the shorter springs, if you really wanted to order some...

Also. Am I getting my physics right? Would an Earvana compensated nut achieve the same outcome, given that it lengthens both the E strings a touch? Or am I missing something there? So happens, I just bumped Nikininja's thread on that nut, so you can find it near the top if you want to see what people have been saying about it.

Oh, and welcome to the Forum!

Cheers - C

Hey c'mon it can't be that easy. Erm....thanks dude, worked like a charm. :D The snip snip of the spring worked. Ended up with only about a turn and a half spring but thats OK.
