Hi

My question is regarding the

Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster from Fenders' Artist Series.

Model Name Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster®
Model Number 010-9200-(800)
Series Artist Series

Can anyone tell me if this model SRV strat ever had a neck with maple fret board as opposed to pau ferro?

If it does have a maple fret board is it not a genuine SRV Strat?

Hope someone can help

regards

Peter Polkinghorn

If it has a maple fretboard it is not all original from the factory. They came with mostly pau ferro fretboards, and a limited number came with brazilian rosewood. No maple though.

It's possible that one with a maple fretboard is a legit SRV strat with a replaced neck, or it could just be a parts guitar.

The signature series has always had a pau ferro finger board, and some had a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The only Fender sold instrument with a maple neck that had anything to do with Stevie was the Lenny tribute guitar released earlier this year. The neck on that instrument originally had a rosewood fingerboard, but ZZ Tops guitarist gave Stevie a maple neck that was latter installed on "Lenny."

Do you mean that someone replaced the neck of their SRV Strat with a maple fingerboard neck?

If I were considering purchasing that guitar, I'd be checking the other details, too. Is the bridge a lefty bridge? Could easily be a sunburst/maple with an SRV p.g. Others here can detail the details to check for authenticity. I'd be suspicious, very suspicious.

Some chinese company has a knockoff SRV strat on their website. Looks pretty awful in the pics. I' sure there are plenty of em out there.
