We have had yet another request for support for an online participant in a player's contest.. This is a large reach and we ought to consider our individual participation in the light of possibly tainting our image as a group among organizations we respect and from whom we desire reciprocity.

I would suggest to you that, if possible, you hear all the participants in a competition before you vote. It this is achievable, and you have done so, post a reply to the affirmative, such as: "I have reviewed the entries of all the participants in your category and have voted my conscience.''without any need to reveal you choice in that this could also signify that you chose to abstain.

If hearing all the candidates is not possible, I would take the position, in a reponse to the post requesting our vote, that a fair and impartial judgement cannot obtained, and wish the participant the best.

I put this on the Forum because of my personal objection to the voting otucomes on "American Idol" which I feel should be limited to 'one call, one vote.'

Technology certainly is capable of making this possible.

Your further thoughts on this matter are appreciated.

All I can say is that I agree with you Doc, a few of these have come into play lately and we do not know all that is involved. Good observation!!

I couldn't agree more, if a competition is to be fair and balanced. Good call Doc.

I agree with you 100% Doc that is the fair way to do it.

Your point is well taken, Doc, and I agree completely. It can't truly be a fair competition is one can't hear all of the competitors and the "one person-one vote" should be a global rule, imo.

Since I posted the request for support in the online voting competition, I guess I am the guilty(?!) party here. I did not intend to create a problem or situation for anyone, and if I did, I sincerely apologize.

I am relatively new to the forums, and did not join the forums to abuse them for personal gain. I recently honored a promise I made to myself many years ago and started to learn the guitar and I have found the members of this forum to be a godsend when it come to both information and common spirit. And I appreciate you all.

But this potential opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime event dropped in my lap, and I will be frank - I am being a shameless $@!&# about it - because the stakes are so freaking HUGE! Heck, I even asked my first wife to vote for me, and until my "real" wife passed away last year she hadn't spoken to me for fifteen years unless it involved child support....And I think most of you would have a hard time resisting temptation as well. And voting for this is limited to "one vote per email address...."

You other members have not yet had a chance to get to know me - but I intend to be a long time participant here and one day hope to give back a small part of what I have absorbed so far.
I am not a fly by night - I am a 52 year old retired Naval officer with 22 years of service, a Katrina transplant, a registered professional Civil Engiineer - I've raised two fine daughters and am working on two grandchildren
Although I just started playing a few months ago, I have been involved in and surrounded by music all my adult life - I was a late night FM disc jockey (or "on air personality" God, I hated that phrase) until I joined the Navy. I had the opportunity in my Navy travels to see a horde of musicians play all over the world since that was and is my passion - so although I cannot yet do it, I know what it looks and sounds like!!

Anyway, all this was meant to say that I did not mean to create a problem. Again, if I offended anyone  - I am sorry. zzdoc has presented a perfectly reasonable idea and I agree with him wholeheartedly.

That seems a very fulsome apology, where I'm not sure any was necessary. Not for me to speak for the Doc, but I didn't get the impression he was out to tell anyone off. Just encouraging people to take a view of the field before voting - which seems a good idea in any kind of election!

The excellent Doctor's point is well taken. And you are a very welcome Member of this Forum too!

Anyhow. It really is never too late to start. Enjoy your guitar playing, wherever it takes you.

Cheers - C

Democracy all the way.

the way u.k and u.s governments are we should relish the chance to vote online for 'any joe that mucks in'.

To the fella apologizing, dont worry about it. Very few people have gone through life without upsetting anyone whilst interacting with people. Im sure doc wasnt having a pop at you. He's far too well balanced than to judge people over what he reads on the internet. His point without being accusing was a good one, online voting needs stricter policing to conform to the idea of democracy.

Heres to ya anyway fella, Hope you win

Hello everyone, while I agree with zzdoc I also see a honest request from a fellow member. So I went to this site, looked at a few vids, and I prefered Deep Voltage so I voted for you Troublecall. Good luck.

Cheers.

Well, folks. I did not win and am not going to London. But Deep Voltage was in the running! My thanks to all for their support!

I don't vote on anything, until I see or hear all the options.
