There is an estate sale down the street with an American Standard.
Serial number is Z2129386 - what year is that??. Looks to be in good shape, couple of small dings. Appears to be completely stock, I cannot detect any mods.
Nice blue color - I do not know which one (Probably saphire blue transparent) with rosewood fretborad.

I think I can get it for $600 or a tad less. Is that a good deal?? They probably won't hold it for me for more than a couple of hours?

I am pretty ignorant, would appreciate any help - very pretty guitar...

Should be an 02-03 by that #.

600 or less would be considered a good price for any USA strat IMO. But if you like it grab her up I would say..the blue ones are sweet.

If she is an 02-03 that would seem to be a very good price. Damn, the timing is bad for this. Pretty, pretty....

Well if it is not something you really need right know and money is tight...let it go (just my advice to you..I would probably buy it and starve a month lol)

Yes it is a "good" deal but not the deal of the century. Now if they let it go for 500 or less...and it's in good shape..that's a steal.

Oh, I won't starve - and "need" is a relative term, isn't it? I am going back down the street to try to dicker some more. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it very much.

The other interested party left. They have put it aside overnight for me.

Normally, if I wanted it I would just buy it. But my oldest daughter just started nursing school and I gave her a chunk of $$ to help her out.

Damn pretty guitar, though. Don't have an MIA. And blue is my favorite color.

Another question - for the transparent color finishes, are those usually ash bodies?

What are the relative merits of the ash over the Alder? Any noticeable difference?

ASh is very dense so many feel the ash bodys are "twangier" or more clear sounding? Personally I can't tell the difference with strat bodies..they all sound good to me.

I do notice a difference in sound between maple/rosewood necks however.

I prefer maple which seems brighter to me, the rosewood sounds "fuller", hopefully I decribed this properly.

One day you'll be sitting in a rocking chair on the front pouch saying,
"I wish i would've bought that blue strat"

Maybe. My lady was telling me to go ahead and buy it. She said if I won the trip to London, I would want the guitar to take. If not, I would want the guitar for solace.
She is usually right, dammit.
