Yeah he was featured in last month's Guitar Player magazine. Inspired me to block the tremolo in one of my strats and change to larger gauge strings, buy a Dunlop 215 pyrex slide, and some heavy Herco thumb picks. Nice setup. I'm doing better with slide than I ever have before. :D

Sonny is a monster player and knows how to use the slide. Bonnie Raitt does a very decent job of playing slide on her burst Strat as well.

Don't forget to bring the action up on the string too.

Yep. I'm playing with the height to find what works for me. Unfortunately I set up a Strat Plus that has the Wilkinson Roller nut which won't allow anything bigger than 11s. But it's working well so far. 8) The hardest part was shaping the maple block I used with hand tools. :?

Before Katrina blew me to Tennessee, I used to listen to Sonny quite often in Lafayette. He can flat play!

His new album is good stuff, but I highly recommend his live album "Grant Street". Disc smokes sitting still....

Used to listen to Tab Benoit in Houma too. Another hot Louisiana guitar player. Swamp blues at its finest.
