Think of the Strat player's - Huey Thomasson of the Outlaws, Steve Gains, Ed King and even early days of Duane Allman and yes even Alan Collins. These guys used Strats. Ed even used SD p/u's and had a Tele neck on his with a maple fretboard ( what he prefered). So, try a Strat if you like that Southern sound.

Can't beat some rebel rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to be a mechanic for Doug Gray and Toy Caldwell way back when. Two of the NICEST laid-back people you'd ever want to meet.

I've been listening to a lot of Black Oak Arkansas lately, but I don't know if they played any Strats.

A more modern Southern Rock group was Raging Slab. Try to check them out ,,,, hmmm, I wonder if they are on YouTube?

Back in the mid 70's my guitar of choice was a Gibson SG. Then I got into "Southern Rock" and that SG just didn't cut it! I bought my first "Strat" in 1977 and joined a Southern Rock cover band. The band was already established and both guitar players played Les Pauls. So when I replaced the one guitar player I brought that "Strat" sound to the band. So if you know Southern Rock, you need the "Strat" and the "Les Paul" to compliment each other! And Hey..Ed King......Image

I'm 28 and just started playing. I remember getting Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced when I was around 15 and being blown away. They were definitely my favorite band in high school. I remember taking a lot of heat from friends because they thought I was crazy for listening to a bunch of "hillbillies". Big Marshall Tucker fan as well. Toy is actually the one who motivated me to learn how to play. I had played a lot of guitar hero and one day realized that they were never going to put classics songs by Skynyrd or Tucker in the game. So I figured I would learn how to play for real.

***Important*** Guitar World has a special issue right now devoted to southern rock. I just picked it up tonight.

Dude I wish I had a mustache like that...

Oh, *ehm.* Yeah, Huey was an awesome guitarist. Couldn't be beat in the southern-rock area...except maybe Molly Hatchet, but thats just my opinion.
