Third? I gotta ask ... why three of them?
(Beautiful guitar, by the way)

Haha - yes, good question!

Great photos, especially that extreme closeup on the scalloping near the top of the neck. Never seen a picture that shows that better.

As an experienced Yngwie Sig player, have you any comments to make concerning this issue we've heard about a lot over the months; the top e falling off the ends of the frets? I've heard that enough times that it must be to do with a standard way the frets are dressed on that model. Any information?

And, in the light of the other thread running on that guitar right now, I'd be glad to hear anything else you can say about how that neck plays for you. What kind of action did it come with? Did you need to change it any - which way?

Feel free to ramble to your heart's content: there's interested readers out here...

Cheers - C

notice the exceptionaly high action
If thats the fender setup for that guitar its no wonder people complain about the E string falling off the fretboard, especialy when played at speed. I'd need some kind of laser guidance system to get it on the fretboard just playing a barre chord  .

Beautifull guitar though, thats my fave colour ever. It should be called magnolia not labeled as a white.

Yes, indeed. I noticed that, especially after what Mr YngwieJr was telling me on the other thread. Seems absolutely contrary to the idea of the neck, I'd have supposed, but presumably he's right that it is to Malmsteen's specifications. Weird - but intriguing.

It is something you hear said. I've never really seen why, but I'm always ready to be informed.

I have a different take on action. When I was just getting going an old-timer told me you should have the action set as high as you could stand, so's your fingers had to work for the sounds. Sort of a puritanical approach, I guess. Maybe I let it influence me more than I should; but I've never chased a super low action. Although "as high as I can stand" turns out to be pretty much factory setup, so nothing very remarkable. Certainly not in the slide zone...

My brother-in-law goes for ultra low action. When I'm playing one of his guitars is does feel very comfy, and yet somehow too easy. Like riding in a car with US rather than European suspension setup. Just too soft and boaty round the corners.

Can guitar action be soft on the corners...?

(We're just vamping here till Mr StratGod is ready to tell us more about his Yngwie...)

Cheers - C

ive set my action about as high as that pic. You get used to it fast, and it makes sound better than you think. Still not like, say, a Gibson LP's action, which is redonkulous. I do have some problems with my bends still, managing to easily go under the other strings and end up pulling off of them from underneath.

The action looks higher than it really is due to the scalloping.
I would say that the high E is fine if you don't pull it - you must play with a lighter touch but it's rewarding (to me anyway).

I've owned three over the years - not three at the moment, although I do have a bevy of different strats currently.
If you haven't played a YJM - go try one - they are a real hotrod of a guitar.
