Hello to all. I am a newbie here. Picked a bit back in the 80's on a right hand strat but the problem is I am more comfortable playing left handed. Well, the bug has hit me again and I have found a left hand 1978 USA Strat in really nice condition. It is a refin but that is fine with me for now.

Well, all is right with the guitar now. New nut and a few minor things fixed but all in all it went well. Purchased an amp (Blues Jr. and accessories) and the guitar made an impression today even with being a refin. Now comes my turn to learn how to play this thing. It sounds great with someone playing who knows how to.

Thanks for you answers in advance. I am not new to forums as I am on several Corvette forums but I not used to being the new kid in town.
Thanks again, Guitarvette

Here are the pics....... Let me know if you think I did well on the purchase.

I'm new here too, but your topic caught my eye because I'm a left handed player as well. With the pickups you've got in your Strat now, it sounds like you're on the right track to getting the kinds of tones you're after.

Replacing the nut shouldn't be a problem at all. A decent guitar tech can set it up left handed for a reasonable price. If it's just the tremolo arm that's broken off, you could probably find a lefty on ebay for a couple bucks.

Will do. I am heading out of town today for a week. I have an appointment at a music shop next Thursday to have everything switched back to left hand and get it tuned right. I have to purchase an amp and other items that I will need since I am starting from new here. I will take some pictures and upload them that night when I get back.

SWEET DUDE!! Tell me, how does she sound?? :)

Is the amp good? Heard good things about it, and they're probably not wrong, eh?

Well, good strat and it will gain value over time, never let it go!!

That is sweet.

Hey since i know theres some leftys lookin at this topic i figured it might be a good place to ask this question.
im looking into getting another guitar, but the one i want is only available right handed, and i was wondering what kind of process it would be to get it flipped for right handed, doing it right and not just stringin it upside down because the strings dont sit right, and how much the process might cost?

thanks for any help, i really want the guitar and i wish all guitars were available lefty but i guess that wont happen.

thanks again guys.

The one I have now is a '78 and it was flipped to be played right handed and I wanted it back correct for left hand playing. The service tech made a new nut for it from bone, corrected the intonation screws and saddles, fixed the controls that had been rewired for right hand volume and tone (original pots) and set everything up with a strobe tuner for $125. I was happy to watch and learn also and he was polite enough to take the time to explain things to me while he worked on it. Like I stated the guys at the music shop were really impressed with the guitar after they heard it. Even being a refin they said I got a heck of a deal on it. Hope this helps and good luck getting it set up right if you buy it.

Nice strat and welcome back to guitar playing. I'd be interested in knowing what you think about that amp. I'm always looking at it when I go to GC or Sam Ash but I just can't find a reason to change from my Vox AD30VT since I need so many different tonal variations at my fingertips.

My musical interest lies in Clapton, SRV, Santana, Chesney and such sounds. I like hard rock but don't care to play it that much. I personally love the sound from the amp so far but then again I am new to this and have a loooooong way to go before I can really get some good tunes out of it. You know how it is when you are just learning and I need some lessons. I only had a small amp when I attempted to play years ago. I did not need anything real big for the house and playing with friends (when I learn) but wanted a good clean sound so that is my reason for choosing the Blues Jr. Actually I purchased the amp and had the service work on the Strat done at Sam Ash in Charlotte, NC and it was an excellent experience.

I did not mention that before because some forums do not allow vendors to be mentioned unless they are sponsers (i.e. Corvette Forum) but I am really pleased with the work they did on making all the necessary corrections and their help with my choices.
