Having tried out several American Strats I haven't come across Strats that has the soft, easy feel of a mexican strat neck. The Mex Strats feel easy to bend & good for speed too.I have played on some American strats that had a similar feel but were mostly guitars that were old & used.
Has anyone felt the same way.
Is there any American strat model out there that has a 'mexican neck' feel?

I'd say yes, there are. The soft "v" profile necks are great!

I hate to admit this being a lover of USA Fenders but I agree. My mid 90s MIM Strat had a better feel and action IMO then most newer USA strats I have tried out.

However nothing beats a real vintage neck if it's set up right and in good shape..but once again that's my opinion. However have you priced a vintage neck recently? It's a joke.

Love the neck on my 06 MIM, but i do however wish it was a bit thicker like a 60's neck they fit my hand better.....

I feel that the MIM necks are quite similar to Strat necks of the 60s whereas the American Series and/or American Standard necks play and feel more like a cross between Ibanez and Gibson. Granted, millions of people are perfectly happy with the contemporary American necks' feel. Yet, surely these necks do not feel anything like that of a real old Strat. This is NOT a knock on the new stuff as they do play great in their own rite. Again, they simply do not feel or play like the old stuff (for better or for worse).

As I've said here a few times, I've been playing Strats as my #1 guitar of choice for over 40 years and by choice, my #1 Strat today is a MIM. One of the chief reasons is because of how much I love the neck on it. Sure, there are a few differences in dimensions from their 60s counterparts but frankly, I think what Fender has done with the MIM necks' dimensions are all improvements. (I'm speaking of MIMs from 2006 to the present, of course.)

I won't get into the whole quality of woods nor US vs Mexico quality control thing as these are never ending arguments where both camps are inflexible.

So, if you want an American neck with a similar feel to that of a MIM, by and large, you'd have to go for the models which replicate the 60s.

As always, this is merely my opinion; YMMV.

Snap.
love my mid 95 mexican squire series neck to the point that i cant play anything else. I mean, i do play other guitars but thats the one i hanker after whilst doing so.
Personaly i think its because i've had it so long that the grain of the neck is inprinted ito my hands and my fingerprints into the fretboard.

Yep..we tend to become "one" with our favorite axes..especially the ones that feel just right. I used to sleep with my mexi strat..well actually I couldn't put it down so I would just fall asleep while playing it. But I sold that..another thing I regret. But building another one now to my specs..hopefull that one will play and feel as nice. I got a beautiful early 90s maple neck for it. Just waiting for some pickups to be delivered and I need to go to GC to purchase a graphite nut.

I'll keep you posted and show pics when it's complete. (black w/ white guard..triple humbuckers w/ coil tap, should be interesting)

Get a earvana nut. I put one on mine friday, everything else sounds out of tune now. It acts like a graphite/teflon nut too.

Cool, thanks.

I am going to GC today so if they have one I'll give it a try.

I love the neck on my 94 MIM strat, but I still like the one on my 98 MIA better. Plays smoother, fret ends are much nicer, the wood grain is nicer and much straighter (instead of that cheap cross-cut look).

I would also get some of those V-Picks that Chet talks about. I bought some of them and just strummed one chord with one of them and then on all of the other picks I own. I could not believe the difference a simple thing like a pick can make on fullness of tone. I'm going to have to try the earvana after all the reports on this forum. 8)

I've been considering a Vpick for awhile now and have shyed away from it simply because of the size of it. I suppose its time to bite the bullet and try one out. The only pick i use is a brass techpick and i hardly use that anymore i got sick of losing em and went back to using my fingers. Heres a good pick site, well worth a investigation when Emi finaly realize that im the next big thing and send me a massive signing cheque

Not to totally disagree, but I disagree....I have played several MiM strats in the past, and about three years ago I bought the American Deluxe Strat.

To put it simply, I have never ever played a guitar with a neck as beautiful as it.

However, (to the not totally disagreeing part) you would be surprised how much a good set up (i. e. action, intonation, etc.) on a neck makes a difference. I have played cheap guitars with good set up that feel great, and I have played nice guitars at music stores that haven't been set up and feel terrible.

Really? Hey, good for you, man!

But I'm very surprised to hear it, considering the kind of music you play.

I could never even get started with a pick - I was a Knopfler-ite from the outset. But then I'm into a whole different kinda thing from you...

Cheers - C
