Can you tell a stratocaster if its an American series or Highway one just from the serial no? The serial no. starts with a Z5. I only saw a low resolution pic which shows small headstock, 22 frets, red color, 2 modern string tees with soft case. I think it might be a HW1, but not sure. Can the serial numbers be decoded to find out what model it is. I search the fender support but it seems the serial numbers are just for dating and country of origin. :?

All we can tell is that it's a 2005. However, I have heard that if you email the serial number to Fender customer relations, they can tell you the model info.

Good luck.

Thanks, orvilleowner. It was placed in an ad and I was interested in it. But from the pics I saw the more I think that it is a HW1. I think the American standards starting from 2005 doesnt have the 2 string tees at the headstock. From what I've researched only the HW1 has that modern 2 string tees. It might be the pre-upgrade HW1 with the small headstock.

jackplate,

If you email Fender they will get you every piece of information you could ever want about the particular guitar you're interested in. Just email them the serial number and they'll get back to you within 24 hrs. I've done it three times.
