*shakes head at the fact someone would consider/not consider dropping $1250 on a new guitar completely based on the fact of it coming with a particular case that can be purchased for $100 or so*

Just my .02

By the way- as far as shipping is concerned- I have had a few guitars shipped out from Fender - it is going to be packaged safe, regardless of what case it is placed in

Sorry ... but I'm not following your logic. To me, the case is a part of the price I'm paying. Like a package deal. If one part of the package is no good, then it's not a good deal any longer - but becomes a bad deal. And when it's going to cost me $100 to $200 more to correct the bad deal. Then it becomes a VERY bad deal.

I would have had the same reaction you had for someone to buy it, then throw away the case and buy another. What a waste. Unless the dealer was buying the case back, and then the buyer was buying another case.

See, I'm looking at what is the total cost to me. If it's within what I'm willing to pay, fine, I buy - If it is too much, I don't, NO SALE.

The price I find for the Cherry burst ash strat is $1350, not $1250.
To me that is very high. I have been trying to justify spending that much on the guitar for some time now. So far I haven't been able to. And I haven't found a dealer willing to do any case swapping. Nor have I found a dealer willing to offer a discount. So .... so far, it's been NO SALE.

But I keep looking ....

If Fender has another price increase - that'll kill it for me too. At least for a few years.

The case that I got with my new '07-dated Am Dlx SSS is like the 1st one linked to previously (the "Standard molded case" - 1/2 guitar-shaped case). Not 100% conclusive proof - because the case actually had hang tags from an '08 AmDlx HSS inside w/the other accessories - I was OK with it 'cause I had all my tags too, and it was obviously from a new Am Dlx, and it is the case Fender says I should have gotten. Hmmm...

American Dlx Specs:

"Accessories
Standard Molded Case, Cable,
Strap, Straplocks "
Case Standard Molded Case

Thanks for the input on the case issue.

I talked to a dealer today about the American Deluxe, in the color I want, which is the cherry burst with maple neck.

He didn't have one, so he called Fender trying to find one. He came back to tell me that he couldn't find one and that it would be close to Christmas before he could get one.

So, I'm hoping that by then that this "wanting" for one will be gone, or at least subsided to the point that I can say "NO" if everything isn't just the way I want it. I played a black one, and It was very hard to put down - and I don't like black guitars. Again, those Am Dlx guitars are great playing guitars. (I'm almost glad he didn't have one in stock - 'cause I'd probably come home with it - bad case and all. You gotta watch things like that. )

From checking the specs, looks like the American Standard Strats/Teles come with the "skb rectangular", while the Am Deluxe models come with the "standard molded case". But it also seems they may have discontinued the semi-shaped one and gone with just the rectangular as "standard". ??? Their 08 catalogue doesn't show the shaped one, and other sites show it as "unavailable".

the pickups on that guitar are brilliant. I've been playing my american strat with texmex pups, but i don't think the tone from them is as good as it should be. love the guitar but i'm going to buy those scn pups.

I have the MIA Deluxe in cherry burst and the same shaped HSC and I am happy to have it. My opinion only , but I would wait for that very same guitar. You won't be sorry!! 8) Plus the maple neck with abalone fret markers!!! 8)

[quote="rholloman"]Anyone know if the current case is like one of these two?
The case that I have called the small case
http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0996101106

The case design shown above is similar to what was supplied with the Strat Plus's over 10 years ago, but I believe the older case was of better quality than what I have seen currently. It mimics the original case design for the '54 Stratocaster when first issued. I have one of these Plus cases over 10 years now. I believe they were subcontracted by SBC and I have been rathere satisfied with them for general use. I take my Strats out of doors in that case when I need a compact fit somewhere. Flew it to Florida once about 10 years ago.

My issue with cases is that Fender should be supplying its high end guitars in the same kind of rectangular fitted cases that PRS supplies. PRS has run circles around Fender for years in this deparment and I believe that G&G builds those cases for PRS.

The new case for the Gilmour is very impressive from the photo, but I judge it not to have the same interior design as what I refer to above. That is unfortunate for a $4K instrument. Fender could learn something here. :?

My 07 MIA ash Deluxe came with the so-called half/shaped case. I paid $1,350 for guitar and case. I would rather have the new case that the standard comes in but at the time that's what was offered and I bought. I do very little traveling with my guitar so it does not matter to me. It's not a "bad" case but I'd rather have the new tolex flight case. It's also a cherry burst(to me the best looking) but that's up to whoever buys it! 8)
