Sure you can still buy a real '60s or '70s Strat. Vintage Guitar magazine has ads from plenty of vintage dealers who would be happy to help you ...

As for what should be reissued ... I think nearly every vintage style has been reissued at one time or another as a production or Custom Shop model.

Personally, I can't pick a favorite.

Like most Australians you will likely spend your pre-university year in London running a bar. While you're here check out this shop, amongst others:

www.vintageandrareguitars.com

I'm not sure the beer selling business pays enough to let you shop for one of those, particularly after you've paid our extortionate accomodation charges. Perhaps instead there is yet another unusual Australian wine or beer waiting to be discovered in the Old Country for whom you could set yourself up as the importer, in order to fund your expensive musical tastes.

Allow me to apologise in advance if I have completely misunderstood your age and experience - but I suspect I'm right, aren't I?

 - C

A gentleman in South Africa has been running a thread over the months on this Forum about an early '60s Strat of his late father's he "rediscovered". The story ended with him selling to a UK dealer for $13000 and then finding out that they had sold it on for about four times that figure.

If your dad can stretch to those sort of figures then, yes, '60s, '70s and even '50s Strats are still to be found. Regular members of this Forum even know where a 1954 Strat is being prepared for sale right at this moment...

Did you take a glance at that website I linked to, above? At the very least, your dad will enjoy himself looking at some of the goodies to be seen there.

On the other hand, your 1K gives you a lot of much more reasonable options. Spend it well and enjoy!

Cheers - C
