i forgot to mention the stuff i said way back about the treble strings still being very slightly off is garbage. Their bang on. The reason being the top shelf of the nut needs to be angled slightly to make the intonation at the nut end correct. Its why the shelf bit is screwed on. The screw goes through a slot rather than a hole on the shelf bit to allow for adjustment.

Ceri, atleast one of my nuts is superb, the other 7 are sadly lacking performance wise though :D

[EDITED because adgustment is not a word]

Hahaha! Thanks very much, man, I think a lot of people here attach high value to the stuff you have to say. Though I'm afraid it leaves some of us in a bit of a dilemma. To fit or not to fit...?

Must say, that Strat looks very nice indeed. I'm right am I; that's not the body you were stripping here on the Forum? You gave that one away, yes? Then again, don't I remember you talking about a mahogany Strat? Surely this one isn't mahogany, is it? Dark looking wood, though. Very tasty. Name for us the pups, if you feel like it.

BTW: the bit you said about leaving your guitar in your car's boot is going to confuse some of our friends across the pond a bit, isn't it?

:D - C

It is the mahogany (african) body, is the other name for it sapele? along with vintage noiseless pickups and a clapton mid boost. If you want a varied tonal range i strongly suggest that boost. Also if your unhappy with the noiseless pickups, it calms their brashness down no-end. I think the next mod is a tele bridge, or a bigsby. Something big and metal to get a bit of country twang into it.

For my westwards friends a car boot is a trunk.

I still have my LSR nut but I have been thinking about the earvana alot.
I do find these intonation issues noticable.
Just curious if changing from the LSR is wise for me in this instance...
(I use tremolo often, sometimes rather extreme).

Maybe I should put it on my already moded 93 strat with the custom bacodi wood neck.
I need to make some photos of that guitar for the forum here...

Hi man: both of those seem like excellent ideas.

I'm wracking my brains right this minute trying to remember what bacodi looks like - be delighted to see that neck.

Gotta say, that Deluxe of yours is so beautiful I'd be very reluctant to mess with it in any way at all. But of course, the experience of your ears and fingers must come first.

Cheers - C

Very NICE! Wow, eat your heart out, bland old mahogany...

BSS, since I've been reading your posts on this Forum you have displayed impeccable taste, and gone to great lengths to secure beautiful instruments. Respects to you, sir!

I'd be afraid to mess with the nut. What makes the Earvana nut superb to the standard nut that come with a Strat? How do you pop the stock nut off and install the Earvana nut, do you have to drill holes in your Strat?

Abombaci,
you know how you play a open Emaj chord and everything sounds fine, but then play a open Dmaj chord and it sounds like clown music its so far off. well the earvana stops that happening by adjusting the intonation of the lower frets of the guitar at the nut. The higher frets 8-21,22,24 (depending on guitar) are adjusted by the bridge saddles as usuall. You dont need to drill holes in your guitar at all. Any screws in the nut dont impact the neck enough to require a drill and certainly dont cause any unsightly alterations. The screws only stick out the bottom of the nut 1mm at most.
Heres the link to the site its all on there
http://www.earvana.com/index.html

Its well worth doing mate, but all your other normal guitars become untunable/unplayable cos its so accurate.

Yes I definitely know about this being off problem and have a very good ear. I've always tuned (you know how you play an A chord and move it up the neck)? Well I've always tuned perfect to those, but I know that most guitarists when they go to play the bar E movable chord only play the first couple strings anyways and never play all 6. so that's the method I use. I also notice if you tune an A chord an then play an E chord the B string in that E chord will always be flat. I always hated that. But yes I did look at the site and read up for about an hour and it's still something I would not attempt myself as I'm not confident enough even though it seems simple enough that anyone could do it on there own but I still think I would leave it up to an experienced luthier. Does anyone on this post have had one installed and really notice the difference?
