Since this is a Strat forum, most people will say that a Strat would be the best. Go to the Telecaster forum, and they'll tell you to get a Telecaster. Go to the "other" guitars forum, and there ain't no TELLIN' what you'll get.

Personally I have a 2007 Fender HW1 SSS config. I have great effects, great amp, and play alone mostly.

Though he's now moved elsewhere you still occasionally see Jerry Donahue Tele's for sale. Extra switch options in a double bound red body with maple neck - a unique combination. See this page:

http://www.grouseguitars.com.au/sold/telejd.htm

There was also a MIJ version of that which is usually very affordable when it comes up on Ebay. An interesting instrument from one of the true gentlemen of music.

Heresy to mention the current manufacturer of that guitar, but they offer it in a very attractive transparent greeny-blue - whoever they are...

Cheers - C

I've had very good luck with a Jazzmaster for solo act work-It takes open tunings well, has nice acoustic property and the switching capability works well for comping/jazzier work. Teles do the job very well also, and I am going to give my mid '90s AmStd Strat a shot also, as it too is very "acoustic" sounding. My Lace Sensored Strat works well but is a bit compressed sounding when played alone, and retuning is a real issue (the other strat takes tuning very well, even with a wang bar).

Whatever feels comfortable, I suggest you try different guitars before you decide, get familiar with the particular voice of the instrument. I would say no sole guitar would fit all my sound needs, ill switch between them as I play different things and different voice for it, well you get my point.

Yet if I had to choose only one forever and ever (people are going to kill me for saying this) I would go with my thinline tele all the way to hell if needed (in fact I plan on being burried with it)
