It is made in Mexico, just like the decal says. Not a fake, but a less expensive, not quite as technically perfect version of the Buddy Guy signature Stratocaster.

Fender licenses these to be built in Mexico in order to offer them at a lower price than the American counterpart.

Info from Guitar dater for that serial #
http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

This guitar is from the Mexican Signature Series
made at the Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico
in the Year(s): 1996 - Present, While this line of guitars was created in 1996,
the serial numbers do not correlate with the subsequent years
hence an exact date cannot be determined from the serial number

So since it is MIM, it cannot be an official Buddy Guy signature git?

Yes it can, a lot of the signature series guitars come from the Mexican plant.

I believe the Buddy Guy was made both as a MIM Signature series, and a MIA Artist series.
But I am not too sure about that.

Yep, that's right.

A lot of us assumed they were going to do the same thing with the Gilmour, when we heard there were to be two versions of that Sig. No such luck...
